So competitive Surok Just be happy for the man.....lol Mobi, any idea of the effective RON octane rating with 30% toluene? Interesting to see the effects of higher octane fuels as no one around has really been game enough to try.

Its Toluene, keep doing that and there will be a lot of melted parts. 1986 fuel crisis( fuel shortage ) 10 company cars added Toluene to make up volume = 10 very fast cars with lots of :) then 3 days latter = 10 very sad reps with no cars all blown !

The RON rating of 30% Toluene / 100octane pump fuel mix is around 106 RON. I decided to use this fuel as E85 is not conveniently available to me and the whole fuel system needs to be changed to accommodate the required fuel volume. Surok: I dont think this setup is cheating by any means, just optimisation of the engines torque and power production via the available resources. Some would say using a turbo is cheating. Mandalay, Toluene at 20-25% concentration gives a 0 knock count, I am using 30%. I have nearly maxxed the available airflow from the present turbo at 26psi, 40psi and 500rwkw is achievable on this fuel mix with an appropriately sized turbo. BTW I love your supercharger project, such superb workmanship and design, cant wait for the results. Thanks for the warning though and the car story was really interesting...

Thank you. Yeh Toluene has a high Boiling Point of 110oC. Its an aromatic and very corrosive .Great paint stripper so dont spill it. And if you have fuel return from the rail to the fuel tank CHANGE THE hose. Its only rubber and will swell very fast. 2 of those cars went up in flames. If your in the industry its cheap actually as cheap as std petrol, Also it wont go off just evaporates so you can keep a 200 liter drum. BTW there is some Toluene in our 98 pump fuel. Oxygenated product is better to raise the Octane rating

What was Adam/JEM's opinion/recommendation on running the 30% Toluene mix? I'm sure if he had concerns, he'd have voiced them. I assume he's played with it before.

I just picked up the car this morning and it is very explosive in acceleration. I am a happy man. Adam did a great tune, the car just purrs and the cold start and stalling issues and light throttle jerkiness have been completely eliminated. I cant recommend Adam any more highly as a tuner, he is very talented but so relaxed and cool. Rear wheel traction is now very limited. A softer rear tyre compound is required to put this amount of power down. Adam suggested Mickey Thompson Streets which are good to put down 400rwkw with rear wheel drive car on the street. The only concern Adam had was that I premixed the fuel in exact mixtures rather than just pour the Toluene in the fuel tank and estimate. I believe he has experience/ knowledge of Toluene before as he wasnt at all phased by my backyard rocket fuel. He did encourage the use of E85 though. I just had the injectors and fuel pump installed and am not keen on spending further to upgrade again to run E85. When E85 is more widely available and convenient I may consider upgrading the fuel system and the ECU incorporating the option of a Flex fuel sensor to automatically adjust the tune to suit the ethanol content of the fuel in the tank. This will be only for convenience rather than any improvement in performance, as it stands the turbo is near at its max airflow. The only upgrade I will consider is the Forced Performance billet HTA3076R which has produced 600whp on E85 at 38psi. This turbo actually spools faster than the GT3076r and makes GT35R power. I would hate to lose the response of the current setup. However the cost and down time cant be justified and it will purely be an academic exercise to satisfy my curiosity and satisfy my need to fiddle with things, as the car cant put down the present torque level efficiently.

Shhhh....Dont tell the neighbours. Must look strange when I am wearing red chemical resitant gloves, goggles and gas mask to fill up the car in the carpark. Oh well, the things we do for more power. Ha Ha Stock LSD, will probably need upgrading soon, when it start single wheeling. One thing leads to another....

Frustrated with the amount of wheelspin the new power was causing I decided to upgrade the rear rubber some R888s semi slicks. The Toyos put down the power very well. Highly recommended.
