Small rust problem

Hi all, asking for advice, ive noticed rust under the lower door hinge on both the drivers and passengers side, i have not taken the panels off to have a closer look but was wanting to know what is the best way to rid of it and maybe patch it up with sheet metal. It looks worse on the drivers side.
 
Has anyone had this problem? Cars an 89 AW11.

    Rust is like cancer.
    I've had it cut out of my SW20 in the roof and metal welded in, but there are no guarantees and it get expensive.
