jdmr288 I thought the D16 was a single cam unless you meant the B16? It is a single cam, they still came with VTEC. The twin cam EGs actually had no VTEC. I have one those heads too, but we decided to stick with the VTEC yo!

1. AE82 5dr 4AC banger with good shock, brakes and gearbox. I had more fun learning to drive in this car that I think I've ever had since. 2. TA22 2TG w/twin webers. 3. TA22 GT 3TGTE swap. Caught fire one night on a hills drive and burnt to the ground on the side of the road :( 4. AE82 Twin Cam :) 5. R31 GTS2 Loved this car dearly. My first taste of RWD with LSD. 6. R32 GTR Pretty much stock except for exhaust. Stupidly fast car for the hills but never really fell in love with it. Ended badly in an accident. 7. 96 Mitsubishi Pajero Lived in Darwin at the time. Took me everywhere I needed to go. 8. New 08 Mazda 3 SP23 My first taste of the fleeting new car smell and new car depreciation. Still got it on a lease, wish I hadn't as my income dropped significantly a year after I leased it. 9. My SW20 :)

Well in the almost two and half years I've been driving i've figured one thing out I love the character in older cars.
1. 2008 Baby blue Honda jazz (family hack) wrecked my sister put it into a tree while learning. Insurance pay out. Loved the vtec, great to learn in, only problem trees always win.
2. 1996 Red Toyota Supra series 1 n/a :) Possible the coolest thing i've owned, thing went like a bullet and thus I crashed, still going to blame the white van who was driving in the middle of the road but we wont go there. Insurance pay out. (Btw I still have this car its in parts in my garage, as i'm fixing but swapped the transmission to auto. Anyone interested in a auto supra :P)
3. 1995 silver Subaru Imprezza lx. jap import with only one previous owner, i got it and made it my fun/bomb car, it's front wheel drive and is pretty much indestructible. Its almost sold, couple more weeks and should have the payment
4. Technically dont own it yet but hopefully next couple of weeks once i've sorted my scoob, Toyota Mr2 SW20. :D

I am now in my late 60's so some of these cars go back a long way. I haven't included the supercharged '49 MG TC and '56 Austin Healey that I used to compete with in classic car races some 40 years ago.....ahhh, the memories. 1. 1949 Singer roadster 2. 1951 MG Y sedan 3. 1963 Datsun Bluebird (bought new...it was cheap and was a terrible car). 4. 1966 Valiant, bought new. 5. 1972 Valiant Charger bought new and these are now worth up to $220,000. I bought it new for about $4,300 and sold it 2 years later for around $2,700. Impossible to predict at the time how valuable these cars would become. 6. 1974 Toyota Celica bought new. 7. 1977 Toyota Cressida bought new. 8. 1990 Mitsubishi Magna bought new. 9. 1993 Toyota Paseo bought new. 10. 1981 Mitsubishi Colt auto (don't laugh, it was for the wife). 11. 1991 MR2 N/A 12. 1999 Nissan Pulsar bought new (my daughter now has this car). 13. 1995 MR2 N/A Bathurst. 14. 1997 MR2 N/A GT (bought in 1999 and sold Feb. 2010). 15. 2008 Toyota Aurion, current family car. 16. 1999 Mazda MX5, current toy. The most reliable and bulletproof car out of all these (apart from the last MR2 of course) is the 1999 Nissan Pulsar. It now has over 230,000 km. on it and has never missed a beat. It still does not use a drop of oil or water. I think regular and thorough servicing is the key.

Some of you guys have owned an arse load of cars... I've had: Nissan Bluebird - Not sure of year model, old, water pump was rooted, leaked water like a seive, literally. First car, was a freebie **GONE** 1990 Toyota MR2 - First MR2, pretty much stock, aquamarine pearl Targa, I got rear ended and subsequently written off **GONE** 1991 Toyota GT4 - FMIC & rebuilt motor, pretty slow even compared to stock standard MR2 - damn fatty. **GONE** 1993 Toyota MR2 - The black rig, in process of second engine rebuild, might get finished one day. **STILL HAVE IT** 1984 AE82 Corolla Sedan - Bought as a daily drive when I was modifying the MR2. Got it for a steal @ $500 with 10 months rego, served me well for 3 or 4 years, only time it broke down was when I ran it out of fuel. Had some killer rod knock the whole time but the ole 4AC just wouldn't say die. In the end I gave it back to whom I purchased it. **GONE** 2004 Evolution VIII Lancer - Bought to replace the AE82 as a daily drive. Did about 20000km in the first 6 months, since then though I've normally had a work vehicle so it pretty much just sits in the garage. Just done the 100k service and put a carbonetic twin plate in it. **Still have it** 2004 Mitsubishi Outlander - More my Mrs' car however will get used to tow my kart trailer around, unless I get an XR6 turbo or something. Drove a ZF XR6T the other night. They certainly have some poke.

Owwwwwwwwwwwww Totenkopf!!! Please tell me (feel free to PM) how does the evo 8 compare to an sw20 in terms of handling and performance because I am contemplating selling my gen 3 to buy an evo 8. While Im sure the evo will get me better track times I just dont know if it will feel as fun not being RWD and MR. Thanks

In similar form of modification the evo out handles and out performs the MR2. You've hit the nail on the head though, its probably not as fun as an MR2. You'd need some pretty mean horsepower in an Evo to get as much of a adrenaline rush from it as a moderately modified MR2. There is something that brings a smile to your face about stabbing the throttle and having the rear tyres light up. Unfortunately for the MR2, its getting old and you're forever going to be chasing your tail doing general maintenance etc. The evo is 10 years younger which is a big bonus if you daily drive or just want the car as a general run around and not a high HP monster (in which case your going to have reliability issues with whatever car you choose). Aftermarket parts for the CT9A evo are plentiful which also means they are cheaper, relative to MR2 parts. Personally, my MR2 is my fun car and my Evo is my daily drive with poke. It'll stay relatively stock with perhaps a conversion to E85 sometime.

In the lower end, the Evo's also WAYYY easier to tinker with. Most only require larger IC piping & catback exhaust by way of parts. Reflashing is much cheaper & they don't even need an EBC to up the boost. Insulting how easy it is compared to an MR2 when mildly increasing power.

I went from a SW20 rev 1 turbo hardtop to an MY03 WRX. The wrx was impressive in its amazing grip, especially in the wet, but it was so capable, it made it boring. No where near as entertaining but much easier to drive quickly. The MR2 was also more torquey, more noisy, less refined and fidgety in its ride. I guess the noise and refinement improvement in the WRX is expected as it was 13 years younger. Cheers
