Gen 3 lights with gen 2 centre panel.

Guys what involved in doing the gen 3 tail lights with the gen 2 centre panel combo.
I'm interested obviously in the location/wiring of reverse lights and how to blend the rev 2 centre panel to have the curves so that they fit properly without gaps
if anyone has pics of this conversion please post them.
cheers

Yep, replacing the centre panel would be the best and easiest option.  Also, i think one of the main benefits and modern look of the gen3 setup is the flush centre panel, I think it would looks strange with the old one in the middle (regardless of how well you blend it at the lights), just my opinion.

I would sooner make the earlier centre panel flush than swap lights and keep early panel.

Looks pretty good except for the no reverse lights? (FAIL)
IMHO I think the Kouki lights are a bit overrated anyway

i'm with you one the dentre panel, i think the rev3 one is bland. but anyhow it's all personal preference.

if it was me i'd use the gen3 one to make a template out of mdf then trace and cut with a fine saw blade over size then use my router and template to tirm it perfect. but that's cuase i'm a cabinet maker by trade.......

so what your saying is use mdf panel to fill in the edges????
wont that get destroyed due to the elemnts being exposed etc...
    i like the idea though.

im just also wonderign  how to fit the reverse lights??

Always liked the idea and look. Main reason I am sticking with a black centre panel on gen 3 lights.
It also saves me buying a gen 3 boot lock

no make a template of the gen3 panel and use it as a guide for the router cutter when trimming the gen2 panel.

defeats the purpose and looks crummy. Unless your using tha space as a giant vent for a boot mount cooler or something it just looks cheap.

Each to their own, but i prefer the more modern look of the gen3 setup, must admit though it does look a bit bare without the mr2 sticker though that some poeple leave off.

I believe my current car didnt get its lock changed when it got changed to the gen3 lights, it all works ok.

Trav just trying something different see how it turns out I guess its not everyones cup of tea

you could get the mr2 "badge" done in vinyl if origiinal is pricey or not available.

but you might as well have a play and see what you like.

just remembered, the other pet hate of the early setup for me was cleaning the honeycomb impressions and black fading.

for reverse lights you could do what the the guy in the link did, but find slimline led strips that you could fit neatly into the strips.

    cheers
