Progress ..... is a bit slower than I had hoped - mainly due to me going off on tangents! ... The front is pretty much finished, all electrics have been sorted and all the pipework done - new pipes/hoses here too...
I have been experimenting with paintwork.. I have tried black with a red (more bronze) zeralic. It is a house of kolor type pearl except more ‘out there’ .. I have laid out stipes but as I don’t want them to go over the body have ended them with flames. These are ghost stripes so can only be seen under certain light conditions. The flames have air brushed ‘hot spots’ to create a bit of a 3’d effect without going to realistic flames which I don’t like. The jury is still out regarding this paint job so feel free to comment.. The photos do not do the effect justice as you really can’t photograph ghost stripes.
I have removed all the suspension and running gear ready for replacement/overhaul. My 12yo son is on the spanners under the rear removing heat shields and the suspension brackets –
This weekend I really need to get the engine out as it has an appointment with the machinist…
I have loads of parts coming from the US having hammered eBaymotors.com, TwosRUS, Mossy Toyota in San Diego and a few other suppliers whist our dollar was sitting at 1.10 ! – Then I can start assembling bits ready for mounting on the car (post painting) … Photos will be posted as I go … Still deciding between Motec, Haltec or Wolf ECU … all comes down to value for money ..

Cheers
Keith

UPDATE: - I have finally made a few decisions....
Colour:  Black with Blue Xeralic (Ghost stripes and flames)
Wheels: Avanti Talons - 17" Titanium
ECU: Haltech Platinum Sport 1000 - running LS1 Coil packs in closed loop
Pistons and internals: ACL Ross Racing Tins, Rings, Bearings
Head Studs, Mains, Rods, Flywheel - all ARP Bolts..
Interior - OH NO! I'm Still undecieded here!!! - I'm thinking a darker tan leather with black stitching.. hmmm .. anyone got any thoughts???

OK .. Engine is out - cleaned and painted - (at least the block is) - it's off to Terry tomorrow to b machined and have some nice stuff mated up to it.. Head is too!..

Has anyone had any experience replacing an SC12 with an SC14 ???? just  thought ?

I'll Post Pics this weekend ..

Cheers
Keith

Personally I dislike tan interiors. My preference is black with slight touches of silver..

Tossing that colour scheme about too... just concerned that black may be too hot in summer with a "T" top ? ....

How about Tan leather seats and black center concole/dash with black door panels with tan inserts ???

Cheers

When you say 'tan' do you mean like a brown colour? Or more of a cream? I love cream but brown just looks tacky in my opinion.

Could also go for a black with coloured stitching (like red or something) or forget the leather and go for a two-tone cloth (black and dark grey or something cool).

Just some ideas :) Either way I'm looking forward to seeing this come together.

350Z? ;)

Not bad.. Would prefer a cream (hence my interior) although I suppose tan is a bit more 80's.

I would also suggest cloth. The targa's get hot anyway unless you have the shades :D and in QLD i certainly would not go leather unless you want to stick the seats then slide round the corners.
Are your targa tops tinted? will the car be tinted?

I prefer leather - as long as it's good quality...

I do have the shades (believe it or not there they where behine the seats and in great condition ..

It will be tinted - the roof will be 100% UV mirror finish ...

It's been a few weeks since I posted my last update so I think it is time to update the thread....

As you can see by the photos the car is now a shell! - Not a bolt remains... The great news is apart from the bare metal behind the dash, there is absolutely no rust on this car !!! - NONE! ... not even in those places that you normally guarantee there will be on an AW11 - so under the rough skin were solid bones! - Even the Engine - Basically, as new condition - never been rebuilt as everything is (was) was standard size.

Everything has been sorted too regarding colour, interior, HP, etc ... so i will go through that now..

Engine.. I was in two minds here. One was to keep the near new hypereutectic pistons, and internals and just clean it up and put it back together. That would be the cheapest option by far .. But I have decieded to go the other root... It is being machined and the head fully rebuilt, ported and polished etc Ross Racing OS Forged Pistons and full race setup. ARP main studs, ARP head studs, ARP Rod bolts, ARB Flywheel bolts along with an Cometic 83mm 0.051" MLS head gasket and HKS 256 Deg Cams..

I have settled on a Haltech Platinum Sport 1000 running closed loop and individual LS1 coil Packs - With Racepack dash which I will be having a custom machined fascia made - I have a spare dash that I will be removing all the innards from and mounting this behind - so it looks as stock as possible..

I know a lot of you will be thinking this should be a turbo runing 20 psi - but I'm a supercharger fan - I know the pitfalls but there are many advantages when set up properly. I have just sourced and bought out of the US a BRAND NEW SC14 ..

To keep charge temps down, PWR are fabricating a custom heat exchanger to run in the same place as the original intercooler with a blower fan underneath  - I will be running their standard 4x8 barrel water to air intercooler ..

HP - I'll let you all guess ... but lets just say - It's not going to be standard

Now for the inside .. after speaking with my upholsterer about what they can do, the whole interior will be leather (English Connolly Hide) Black with natural grain, the center of the seats will be perforated to give a texture change and for practicality reasons. The doors are being stitched in panels and where the velour is now this will be perforated leather.. All the stitching is 12 gauge blue!...
The Paint – is Black with very subtle Blue xeralic ..  ghost stripes ending in flames too..

So the car it stripped, I am about to media blast it then the painting begins !! …. Engine will be back this weekend, all the internal bits are off to the upholsterer to begin work on  (he is going to take the longest)..
Oh – and in the photo you can see the rust that the bare metal parts is covered with-  it’s only surface rust which I have already sandblasted off and painted with a zinc based rust inhibitor paint…

Let the assembly begin!

PS: My red NA is now seriously for sale ! – $6500 or happy to give it away if someone picks up my upholstery billJ

Cheers

A big Saturday ..... The lower and upper engine has been completed. New Ross Racing forged pistons - all race series bearings etc  - all ARP studs - mains, head, rods .. New oil pump, fresh stripped and painted sump.. Head has been totally re-built (totally) ... Cometic 83 mm 0.051" Head gasket too (Serco who supplies cometic aus wide are about 5 k's from me and had this in stock! - cheaper too than list price in the USA .. yay!!!!)..
Interesting to note my 'anal' approach to this  - every nut and bolt is new .. even the oil pan bolts are new! .. OK - I like to over engineer.. ..but you will see that as this post goes on....

I've attached a pic too of my BRAND NEW SC14 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! .... eye candy!...

Target for Sunday - My 12 YO son will be slaving over the sand blast cabnet cleaning up all the yukky stuff ..

I'm going to be sand blasting and hopfully laying paint in the engine bay!!!!!!....

Still no takers on guess the power ?  SC14 + Haltech + 440cc Injectors + Cams ... come on - have a crack!... I will publish the dyno results at the end of the build...

:)

Cheers

How much boost?
200hp?

What we're dealing with here is a complete lack of respect for the law.-"Sheriff Buford T. Justice."
Do you know the 1st rule of Italian driving?
