Stupid Mistake - No possible easy solution.

Possibly done one of stupidist thing in my and possibly all time life.

Installed the upgraded gen3 tail lights on my car, all went normal and bolted up fine.

Accidentally (intentionally but unknowing) removed the lock barrel when i was removing gen 2 garnish and didnt think about it till now....

in a rush to tidy up before rain closed the boot, and well now the boot cant be opened.

Any ideas what to do, apart from cutting a big 'speed hole' in the middle of the boot.

Cat hanger will NOT work, and bit lost....

oh my....i have no idea... is your boot carpet in the boot? you could go up from the bottom to hide cuts/welds if no boot carpet. good luck mate

bugger.  you obviously tried puling the boot release in the car?
how about fishing around with a wire through the key hole to try and pull the mechanism open?

    Hi
I feel for you and I hope you get it open without having to resort any cutting.
I assume that you can see through the lock barrel  into the boot. I purchased an ingenious piece of equipment called an auto inspection camera. This is very much like an endoscope that doctors use to look down a persons throat. It should be small enough to insert through the barrel hole and with this you can see inside the boot as it has 2 led lights. You can probably put a wire through at the same time and hopefully hook the boot release and open the boot.
    Good luck

A locksmith may be able to help without damaging your car.

Called a friend of a locksmith - he  came out (mainly to laugh at my scenario) but did say because there isnt a lock so he can do much.

Tried the mechanism on drivers side floor - simply wont work as it relies the lock mechanism to be in a firm position (ie bolted to rear beaver panel)

I did try and hook something onto the latch through the key hole but there is no way I can do that and then pull it to release.
No boot carpet but not sure what you meant sorry.

Been thinking this all day - got to point where started shaking off rear spoiler in dispair.

I do plan (if I cant come up with anything else so anyone has anything just please say - however stupid it may sound) is to a tyre leaver/crow bar up the boot from where the hook is enough to get the two 10mm bolts out with a spanner.
I did gently try this with a screw driver but just turned that into a giant fishing hook.

Pro: dont have to cut a hole in boot
Con: more then likely will damage the boot and possibly damage my new gen3 lights, may end up doing all this and still wont open.

Sounds like you will do some serious damage to the bootlid.  unless you are in a desperate hurry, dont rush it.

if you can hook something through the key hole, and then hold it stiff, the interior release may work?

    or
would this work?:  Open engine lid, then you should be able to see the boot hinges.  cut them (dont think you will be able to get to the bolts), and this may give you enough space to lift the forward edge of the boot and get in there, or reach in with your hand?

So the lock isnt bolted in yeah?

You can release the lock, i know what you mean about trying to hook the lock but not being able to pull, as its only through the lock hole, but you can go in via the wiring grommet behind the drivers cnr indicator, that way you can pull in and out easy

other way, if exhaust was off, remove the heat shield between exhaust and boot floor, theres a few largeish grommets, pop one off, go in.

theres heaps of ways, if you have a work car like mine full of tools to hook wires (clothes hanger wire, rods, hook springs, flexable inspection cameras ect) its easy! no damage needed. If you were vic, ill pop it open

My friend has one of those cameras (that was mentioned above) so will be bringing that - hopefully will try that.

Hopefully the mechanism doesn't have to be rock solid (ie held like it is bolted in) as I think thats going to be be impossible to hold it that tight.

I will have a look at cutting the hinges, i know there isnt much room but will see once i remove side access panels and engine cover....-  anyone with a steady hand and tools available?

WIDEMR: that sounds promising - when you say large grommets - enough to get a hand in - all will is still be working with wire on a cord?

Nah, just like 2", but if you have several holes, 1 for camera, 1 for rods.

Use something stiff, ie coat hanger straight with small hook at end

The release cable dosent attach to the boot latch, it attaches to a mechanism on the back of the lock barel, so with the gone, there will just be a rod coming of the latch, yeah? need to try and pull /push that towards drivers side
