I recall somthing when I was buying my first MR2, I looked at a 94 and noticed the lack of bolts for retro fitted bars, and the dealer said only the early didnt come with bars and needed to be retrofitted.  It was many years ago (my brain is rusty), maybe some gen3 JDM owners can have a quick look and confirm?

I was wrong, i imported a 3/4 cut of a 1996 model JDM hardtop that was an high spec airbag car and it indeed has std door bars.
