I had nearly finished assembling a 20V blacktop for my clubman car  when a customer told me of the rods that had broken in his race car.. After he showed me the damage, I stripped my engine and replaced them with the much beefier 4AGZE rods!

Or you could at least run the 20V Silvertop rods. They are a bit more beefy then the Blacktop, but not as heavy as the 4AGZE rods.

Thanks guys this is where im at, still hoping for the 2week turn around...
Cheers precisegrak for the intel would most definitely have missed this! Good insight
Mega cheers Knightrous! Thanks for attaching the image there's a clear difference the standard 20v blacktop rods look way to skinny by comparison! I agree Silvertop rods look good. Thank you.

Thinking I potentially owe you boys a beer

Having a hard time finding Silvertop or 4agze rods for that matter, some ready to purchase alternatives Ive found:

Brian Crower > Rods
http://www.briancrower.co...toyota/4age_rods.shtml
Also of interest is this:
Brian Crower > Could stroke the 4age to 1.8...
http://www.briancrower.co...ota/4age_stroker.shtml
Has anyone done this to a 4age 20v blacktop in an AW11? Would love to hear about it? Wonder if it would be like a 1ZZ-FE or 2ZZ-FE purely in displacement terms and therefore given performance advantages of a 1.8 vs 1.6... (only curious) 5age?)

Autech:
http://justjap.com/store/...59&cat=&page=1

Anyone had experience with either or have done similar?
One step forward Two steps back, slowly but surely aye Cheers!

Yeeeeow!!! Project Kics Lugnuts arrived! Settled on black chrome R40's open ended. Really surprised by the quality, 40grms each for steel nuts! Surface treatment is spot on! 1st impressions are really good craftsmanship / quality +++

Heaps of room around the nut for unique removal tool!

That's it, still looking for more info re connecting rods, big end bearings etc etc etc Brian Crower so far for the win...
Cheers guys!

Cheers Rds!

Update on my rig:
Autech Connecting rods ATTKD - Forged 4340 Steel with ARP fasteners are going in along with,
Brand new OEM Toyota pistons, rings, gudgeon pins and circlips largerly because i couldn't get the gudgeon pins separately... this 4age 20v Blacktop has been fully rebuilt! Will be great to hear it at full song cant wait who doesn't love the sound of a 4age! The stroker kit was very tempting but it was simply going to cost too much, maybe down the track (racetrack ahahaha) - 3 weeks to go just waiting for piston kit to arrive...

Yahoo! 16v/20v harness is inbound express from the states as of tomorrow! 1-2weeks tops before this adub sees bitumen! The RAYS wheels need to refurbished i think before any mr2 national meet! They have some alloy oxidation on em... been meaning to Photoshop different re colour options for a while.
Love the fewer spoke count of the older 1 piece Rays Gr-Ns over the even better CE28ns, think its modern and chunky and not too modern for the AW, was sold on the red on red look but thinking...

Respect the motorsport/ track look of black but think maybe blacks just too harsh... hence charcoal OR a gun metal gloss...

... or white! Favoring white...

hmmmmmmm? Thats bout it!

red on red. i think the red is slightly off, but i love that combo. always wanted it on my adub (and might end up spraying the work's center's that colour!)
but those wheels seem to look best in the grey photoshop.

more importantly, why did you photoshop out the front right indicator? :P

also, looks like the front badge has gone walkabout somewhere along the line. so have you discovered the joys of ebay UK for un-sun-faded AW11 parts yet? grab a new badge from there for them to post out. :)
otherwise, toyota do them for $70 afaik.
they're so pretty. :P

Cheers RdS! Rofl! Knew it the second i uploaded it, classic photoshop layer error... reason... saw a mad s2000 ap2 with a spoon front bumper yesterday and it had a non symetrical intake like this:
http://img183.imageshack....2448/s2000grey2tv1.jpg
im a sucker for it, love that style
http://image.nengun.com/c...wrx_grb_09_version.png

Busted.

Was trying a similar theme / a similar duct for the radiator... not effing up the good looks of the aw11 (Toyota/Lotus designers had it right) just thought it be cool to go ma70 supra style and elongate/open up the area next to the white lens let more air in, slightly impractical seeing whats packaged in that area but still... i think it would be cool... subtle.

Lol your right again man, my badge was "pinched" prior to purchase... cheers for the hot tip regarding ebay.co.uk for the badge only scared it will get pinched again... did find a cool sunroof shade though: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/...PageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
do you still have yours? I didn't know they existed! Red Work centers! Nice cant wait to see those wheels fitted!

Thought losing the polished lip might work better with full re-coloured rims i.e dark grey rims with high gloss black re-pro volk racing decals!!?

Long time no post - update to the diary of the build

Delays and lost parts in transit via the terrible events in Japan so its been a while since Ive done anything with my lil MK1. Fast forward 1 week ago, porting polishing complete, honed, balanced checked out, parts arrived checked out and installed checked rechecked and checked again. Speed up to yesterday ages in the making, now that the parts are in the rebuilt 20v it was dummy fitted this week and alas we had to either modify the 20v's ae111 trueno header or custom fab a new one to get around the starter motor and keep the engine bay tidy... custom fab it was - so all things well and with no dramas should be driving this lil aw home early next week - will be cleaning and "armor-all ing" all removed trims this weekend to pass the time  (tempted to leave the interior bare) Will post pics asap!

Roll on JDMST EOMM!!

YEOW!!! Emma's back!!! Just a quick pick of the cleanly fitted blacktop!

Sounds so ace as she climbs through the revs! Fujitsubo exhaust - modified AE111 header and custom pipes -  Keeping it under 5000rpm till it reaches 1000km cant wait ;)
