So I haven't posted in here for a while, thought I'd do a bit of an update.

Car has been going great, been slowly installing things I've bought over the last 6 months, like Omori boost guage, TRD speedo, new interior plastics, turbo engine lid etc.

A recent picture (the S15 beside it is a beast, around 290kw).

Then this happened...

Muck up day at school and some kids thought it'd be funny to flour and egg my car.  Tried to drive fast to blow it all off, didn't work so ended up trying to wash it off.
Mistake.
Turned to glue and every single nook and cranny was filled with white glue.  Luckily, kids were busted and paid for a detail - after which I could see every scratch, ding and paint chip.
So I've decided to strip it back and get it painted while it's off the road.  Why is it off the road?

This happened

Done for bald-ish tyres.  In my defence, only the inside of the tyre was worn past the tread indicators.

So watch this space for complete strip back on the exterior and repaint.

Eric - Thanks mate, I also have a Fujitsubo Legalis R lying around at home.  Probably going to polish that one up too and try it out...heard some good comments about them.

Carmikey - I thought about arguing with him about it then thought the better in case he 'pinged' me for other stuff, like the indicators, tint, no cat (I installed a downpipe) etc.  Oh well, least now I can spend some decent time on it making it look good!

GEEBUS!!!  It looks like Charlie Sheen had a party all over your car!  Looking forward to the strip back and repaint.
Silly question, but are you keeping the standard black or going to go for black with a colour tinge?

Mr2gtracer - same colour, from memory its Toyota 202 black.

So installed my Gen 3 Berk Dump (sourced by Gorilla Industries - thanks Dylan!) a while back.

Putting in the the dump was easy.

Taking the cat and the old pipe was hard. Very hard.  Mainly due to rusted bolts, impossible angles to get at nuts, smacking my chin open with a socket wrench when a bolt let go (lol) and undoing nuts by 1/16th turn by turn.

Anyway, whole thing took about 2 hours (I had a few 'rage quits' in there too).

New dump...so shiney.

Trusty pit...I applaud people who have done this without a pit or hoist.  You are legendary.

Dat cat.  I also found that part of the honeycomb had twisted sideways (most of it had gone) and was probably causing some blockage.

She's out...notice the WD40/Freeze off soak stains trying to get those damn nuts off!!!

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

I took some time to grind away on the inside of the dump (probably not needed but I did for peace of mind) - just to make sure the wastegate didn't interfere with it.  There was no way I was doing this job twice lol.

The easy part...putting the dump in.

So it was getting dark, and forgot to take pictures of it all back together - only took about 15 mins from bolting the dump in.  I was also pretty interested to see the difference, if any, of the dump pipe.

So...Yes there was a difference.  Definitely spooled up quicker, and sounded better.  Probably not much in making more power, but definitely in making it earlier.  Probably also due to my other cat being partially blocked by the twisted honeycomb.
Money well spent.

Starting the strip back of car this weekend :)

Ok, so didn't get that much done on the weekend - was going to start stripping the car back ready for paint prep.

I did manage to finally install my stainless steel cooling panel in the frunk (probably 20% functionality and 80% looks).

I then spent some time sanding and prepping my side air vents - they have the middle section removed.  Painted them with the leftover paint I had from the lip.

Realistically, I'm not going to paint the car myself so these will probably get prepped/repainted when the whole car gets done - I was just using up paint :)

Put new rubber on my rear 17s.  255/40/17 GT Radial Champiro HPY.

Not my first choice (Federals) but they were going very very cheap so got them.  They are SO quiet.  Like stupidly quiet.

Well, I did have plans to get the car painted over the Christmas Holidays but after speaking with several painters I've decided to wait a few months.  The reasons being that up here we are in our Wet Season which means hot, very humid (close to 100% humidity) rainy weather...as opposed to our Dry Season (hot, dry, no rain).
Hence, right now isn't the perfect time to get the car painted - too much moisture in the air - and since it'll be costing a fair amount, might as well get it done right the first time. So now looking at sometime around May...

I replaced my crossmember (had a very small crack in it that wouldn't pass rego) with one from Totenkopf.  Painted it and put it in...took around 3 hours, and while I was there, put in the red Kirkosaurus engine mount inserts that I got off Mrskylighter a loooooooooonnnnnnngg time ago lol.

(Note: Still haven't made my mind up about the inserts.  I like the firmness of them on take off and hard launches, as well as 'feeling' more of the engine, though don't really like the vibration at idle.)

I also decided to upgrade my side mount intercooler set up.  I went with a top mount A2A option, measured it all up, got the BIGGEST core I could fit in the lefthand side of the engine bay.

The core, couplers and clamps I ordered through Frozenboost: http://www.frozenboost.com/product_info.php?cPath=207&products_id=208&osCsid=4f0dea93c355639ffdc64d726130d95a.

The BOV adapter I managed to find on eBay (was slightly hard as I wanted to keep my Blitz DD BOV) and the Spal fan I already had :)

The install was slightly tricky - mainly due to the fact that the core was probably a little on the big side.  I had to move the coolant filler, took off my gas prop (need to fab up some brackets to put on the drivers side), and adjust the air filter. Oh, and the straight coupler from the BOV adapter to the intercooler wasn't long enough - so I put in a joining section (will probably change this later on).

Apart from those issues, it fitted ok.

Before:

After:

There is also the fan underneath the core (hard to see in the pics), it's bolted to some brackets that I fabbed up.

All in all, I like it.  Cooler air, away from the dump pipe, bigger core, less pipes and bends, and probably cost around the same amount as a sidemount intercooler.

Interesting, I'd be keen to see some intake temps if it was at all possible.

5sgte - I was thinking about logging some temps comparing the side mount and top mount but didn't get around to finding out the side mount temps.
I'll get around to logging the top mount intake soon, but I've done a few hard runs and the cold pipe feels only warm. It's way better than what I had, but probably not as good as a w2a set up.
But for under $350 I'm happy.

Good work on the new intercooler. Very satisfying to build your own instead of bolting in a kit.

You should be able to buy a black straight silicone coupler long enough to join the bov pipe to the IC. I think I bought an off the shelf 2.5" in 20 or 30cm in length

Nice fabrication job! It looks awesome! Would love to know if there is a gain in cooling performance over the side mount. Always wonder about a top mount A2A and if the rising heat off the engine would affect it.

Mrskylighter - thanks mate. There is one similar to my set up that Atsracing sell but it's $1200!! Also, I've decided I like those inserts I got off you. Went for a decent drive today and liked the feel of the engine when accelerating. :)
Finally, where did you get your coupler from? Want to get rid of the joiner.

Deco - thanks mate. I don't have any real proof yet but I would say it is better than a side mount set up. A lot of air gets moved upwards through the engine bay and it's nowhere near as close to the dump pipe any more. And the 11 inch Spal fan helps.

Can't remember where I bought mine in blue from. Just checked Ebay and you could go for the one below and just cut it to suit.

The one below can be had in black at any diameter x 1M length. less then $40 shipped from Melbourne.
