Club permit
(I thought I already posted this but can't find it so appologies if this is a double post)
Hey,
Does anyone know if the MR2 club is affliated to get club permits?
Just found the following info:
http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/Home/Registration/PermitsModificationsAndDefects/OtherPermits/ClubPermits.htm
"From 1 February 2011, new conditions of use for club permit vehicles apply.
Under the new conditions of use, permit holders are no longer restricted to club sanctioned activities when using their vehicles. Club Permit vehicles can be used at any time for any purpose other than for the carriage of goods or passengers for hire or reward."
This would be great for me as I drive the car 10-15 times a year.
Thanks guys,
Deevon

Doing more reading I found it has to be over 25 years old to get a club permit.
Ahhh well ... 4 years

Yeah shame about the 25 years bit
I deal with a few hot rodders through work and they been waiting for this to come in. With being able to drive for any 90 days of the year you can pretty much take it out both days every weekend

The VIC MR2 Club is looking at getting this at the moment.
Pros: No RWC required, just a Club "safety check" (if the Club agrees to take the responsibility). No stamp duty payable until you put it on normal registration. Only $65 for a 45 day use permit or $120 for a 90 permit, that's per year. No longer do you need to be on a Club sanctioned outing, you can use your car anytime.
Cons: The MR2 must be 25 years or older, so at present only suits import AW11s built before 1986. After 90 days use the car cannot be driven on the road for the rest of the year. A Log Book must be filled out for each day's outing. Differet red number plate, no personalised plate, etc, but slim line is available.
The Club Permit Scheme is for VIC only, but each State has a similar scheme, check their Web Sites for variations in your State.

I assume there would be pretty harsh penalty if you are caught with a incorrect/incomplete log book quote: Clubs are required to sign an agreement with VicRoads that they meet certain obligations including that they notify VicRoads if they become aware or reasonably suspect a pattern of incorrect use of a logbook by a member. If this is not done, VicRoads will be able to revoke the club’s approval to be part of the scheme.

This is a Club based permit scheme. One other restriction is that you must belong to a Club that has Vic Roads approval. So it's not just the Authorities that administer the scheme, it's the Club as well.
@ Purple5 stop trying to think of ways to cheat this fantastic priviledge for people who have cars they basically use for Club use or just on weekends. If the Club condones such action they risk losing their approval to sign such permits. So people who ABUSE the system risk losing it for everyone. The MR2 Club will notify VIC Roads if they "know" someone is abusing the system and refuse to sign your Permit renewal in the future. As a last resort a Club can revoke your membership thereby cancelling your permit.

Kevin - i didnt mention anythign about how to cheat the system, nor am i asking for ways to do it i just wanted to know how the RTA is going to know wether or not people are miusing the system, as keeping a log can be done easily by anyone wethere its correct or not is the main thing, just like the learner drivers flogging the 120 or so hours practice time rule i already seen what dasic1 quoted, just asked the extra question because i wanted to know wethere we had to get the log book checked or stamped evertime the car was taken out
you could have just responded a bit more appropriately insted of accusing me of trying to cheat a system that is 4 years away from being introduced for the sw20 anyway...

I assume the log book would be one of the first things a police officer would ask for if your pulled over.

I think tacho checks by the club, cops and annually will happen to stop people abusing the system and bringing it dow. So you get stopped, they check your diary vs the tacho, no match, no drive.

I see what Purple5ive is saying ... does seem to be quite a few ways to "cheat the system" if you really wanted to.
Disclaimer: not saying I would just saying it's possible. I drive my car 10~20 times a year so no point lying about it.
