Looks awesome man people keep telling me I need to sort out my fuel filter and I'm dreading the job. I might just trick a mechanic into doing it for $500 for me haha. The hardest thing I've done on the car to date is the dump pipe and in hindsight it wasn't that bad.

I'd do your fuel filter for $500, it's not a hard job or you mean pump?

For anyone considering painting, my biggest issue is dust.

Doing the clear coat I've ended up with a bit of crap settling on it.

Not ideal but amateur paint jobs are gonna look amateur haha

lol yep I meant pump. Every car I've owned had both the filter and pump in tank so it's become habit to refer to them interchangeably until I'm actually doing the job. I kind of want to do it because of the built up hype about it being tough and me succeeding with the HFH and dump pipe lol but thats wishing nightmares on myself.

When painting fuel tank and internal bits I don't suppose you'd care too much about crap settling. I take it your booth is just your shed with maybe a backwards fan for venting and some whirlybirds?

Give the tank a go, it just nuts and bolts... Hardest part is separating the filler tube, once that's done its easy.

Follow this and you can't go wrong: http://lovehorsepower.com/joomla/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=24:removal-of-fuel-pump-on-the-mr2-&catid=6:procedures--pics--notes&Itemid=29

Probably easier with a couple of people helping pull the water and AC pipes out of the way but I used ratched straps and got it done.

Yeah painting stuff thats in the engine bay/under the car I have no issue with crap settling in it.

But white mirrors show everything. My "booth" is my shed and no fan haha. The car will eventually be vinyl wrapped but I just wanted them to look better than red mirrors on a white car.

few things I learnt:
- If you can hang things up when spraying/drying do it
- Clear coat will take daaaays to dry in vic
- If you screw it up its just sand paper and start again to fix it (so not the end of the world)

Like the fuel pump, just get in there and do it, youll appreciate the professionals a lot more haha

Pulled out the intercooler yesterday. Bit of oil so will give it a good clean before it goes back in, and straighten out some of those fins:

Put in the blocking plate in last night, having issues getting it to fit but it was late so I gave up pretty easy:

More parts:

A warning for anyone who is ordering the exhaust manifold gasket, it doesn't come as a pair, you have to order 2.

I learnt that the hard way

Also painted up the intercooler with some ceramic heat paint:

Built myself a dodgy little spray booth:

If it looks stupid and it works its not stupid...

For anyone removing studs I can't recommend this little tool enough. I had 3 rusted in studs. Tried WD40, freeze and release, blow torch, hammer (to shock some rust off), the double nut trick, cutting a flat head bit on the end and using a hammer drill. None of them worked, this little banger got all three off in about 30 mins with very little issues.

HFH and HFHOE done:

What's the tool called? Wouldn't mind looking into it.
