Oil filter is moved to the bottom of the engine, better oil baffling and cooling properties, space for the gen4 camshaft sensor, oil sensor ports, inbuilt relief valve.

I'd have to change the oil pump to match the sump so this will sit on the shelf for quite some time.

The gen4/5 sump allows all the aspects listed above, crank angle sensor is great to allow for easy coil on pack COP upgrade and advancing ecu control on ignition (aftermarket ecu required), as well as the biggest aspect of utilising the gen4/5 oil pump that has a larger gator (15mm vs 13mm in Gen2/3) and runs the gen3/4/5 smaller 1 tooth less cog (runs the oil pump slightly faster), overall far greater oil supply available at pump. The pressure relief valve regulates actual oil pressure.
This is the Toyota design of gen4/5 for 3sgte (and can be used for a 5sgte build).

Thanks All, Probably a bit daft. But Does this mean you end up running two filters? Of you just block the original filter location with something?

Does anyone have a link or something I can read more about actually doing this and how its done in practice?

Before you jump on a 'buy it now' - lol - You need to determine why you are upgrading and what purpose you use the mr2 to determine whats the best solution and the answer maybe a gen3 sump or moroso sump (more oil at sump) or even stay with a gen2 sump.

There are a combinations of solutions for gen2 3sgte block or late model 5s block and gen4/5 sump with gen 4/5 oil pump set up in regards to the oil cooler/filters;
Run the smaller n/a oil filter z386 at the stock position and run the larger z4xx turbo oil filter at the bottom location, or replacing the gen2 oil cooler with a gen3 oil cooler that has the block off plate on the oil cooler (custom HFHOE required), or running a late model 5s oil cooler (requires modification), or running a gen4/5 oil cooler (requires modification) at the stock gen2 position as it also has the cooler block off plate, or eliminating the stock gen2 oil filter position and running an external oil cooler.
The gen2 motor with gen2 sump can be upgraded by a late 90s model 5s oil pump upgrade that allows you to keep the gen2 sump, and is the cheapest upgrade for more oil flow at pump. http://www.atsracing.com/Parts/Details/E-OILPUMP

Google will provide further information or PM me and can share some pictures and info.

Wheel alignment done, while it was up I found a small fuel leak (from the filter) and new brake lines leaking.

Between having a baby and repairing a caravan I haven't had a lot of cash left over for my MR2, but I did get a fuel pressure gauge...

Had to get a new bung in the down pipe, as the one in it had the wideband sensor hitting a water pipe.

While it was out I decided to give it a ceramic coat:

And the new bung works great:

Now working out the wiring/mounting:

Sad to have to tell you but that bung is too close to the turbo.  You can make up a heat shield to go under the WB sensor using some sheet aluminum.

Personally I don't see the problem. What do you mean exactly? Its the same setup I have on my turbos.
