A Letter to Toyota
I thought of this after taking my car for a roadworthy.
Dear Toyota, Thank you ever so kindly for making such a magnificent car. The SW20 Toyota MR2 is nimble, responsive and exhilirating. For this reason I ask, WHY DID YOU PUT THE ENGINE NUMBER UNDER THE DISTRIBUTOR.
As a result it took 3 and a half hours to find it, the dizzy cap and several other things had to come off/be moved out of the way.
There was 100 spare pieces of cast iron for them to stamp it, why choose that one?
I ended up missing my Vicroads Appointment for registration due to this.
Kind Regards,

Haha that's great. Your car looks amazing by the way, quite a transformation from how it was when you bought it.

They may send a letter back saying:-
Dear sir,
The engine number is located under the distributor and is easily viewed by using a mirror and light source.
Moving on when i first imported my MR2 the guy at Vicroads had no idea where it was so just said yep anyway im sure it's correct and signed it off. hahaha

hah...yeh if you know where it is it's not that difficult. guy over here in WA has his engine number on his rego papers the same as his VIN number due to the fact that the inspectors didnt know where the number was and couldn't be stuffed.

My guy at vic roads was on the ball then. He struggled for all of 5 minutes before finding it because I sure as f*ck was not going to have an idea.

so glad WA isn't as strict with MOT and rego as it is over east.
When my car was getting registered had enough trouble finding the VIN, he did not even open the engine compartment and it was passed!
Looking at rego paper now, must of just dug up the history of the VIN to get the engine number.

A bit of a worry considering you may face the possibility of your insurance not being legit!

I had similar issues getting rego my AW11. After 3 hours of looking and removing parts, the mechanic couldn't find the eng number, so he gave me the keys and said "We give up, come back to us when YOU find it". [:0] So I took it to my local Toyota dealer. In 20 minutes I was out of there with a letter signed by the assistant service manager, stating: "Toyota MR2 VIN AW11-blahblah has eng number 4A-blahblah fitted and of this date is owned by Joe Blogs etc" However my time spent at Vicroads made my day. The lady came out to check the engine number, so she stood in front of the car and said "open the bonnet" ...The look on her face was priceless [88]

I know that the 4AGE engines are used 'inverted' in various Corolla's, but are the 3SGE engines used in a similar fashion in any front-drive Toyota's? The number would be much easier to find then!
