This would be the first "mod" I would do to a later model SW! [:x)] Wiz: A Fairlane LTD would be very very "stable" but I doubt it handles very well... [:p]

Awww---c'mon Josh, you know what I meant. I said more stable at speed in the corners, not the straights. I understand that a lot of guys prefer the handling characteristics of the earlier models and they probably are 'drivers cars'. I am merely pointing out that the later models do not have as much 'snap oversteer' and possibly are more suited to the novice. They are still both great cars but neither are 'dickhead proof'.[xx(][}:)]

Now you know I don't like that term! responsive yes (you might say "twitchy") but not "sudden" and "unpredictable" - come on even the early ones aren't close to the "widow makers" ol' Porsche 911's! [B)][xx(] I think novices should just stick to Integras and Civics lol. The only cars that are close to being dickhead proof are late model Evo's and WRX - any clown can get into those cars and mash the pedal and not have to be afraid of it spinning out backwards into a tree! Yeah---I suppose I can't say too much. In my now 'more mature' years my daily driver is a 2008 Toyota Aurion. A lot of power but not exactly an MR2 in the twisties.[:-(][x2x]

Lovely smooth car - at basketball last night my friend had his there just the ATX had a look inside and love the optitron dash! if I were doing a lot of country driving that would be it. I was gonna get a ZR6 through work but maybe in the future.

@stuka sounds like a good idea mate! did the 92 have revised suspension? thought it was 93+ for some reason. would definitely be interesting as a comparison, what gear are you running on your mr?

There you go..yet another snap-oversteer myth dispelled. I've never found the rear of the '91 'twitchy' with any amount of positive toe-in and at least 1.5deg negative camber, tho rear bar selection seems to be critical. What Toyota basically did to it was try to nail the rear with lower aspect, wider tyres in '92 as something of a knee-jerk reaction, followed up by revised suspension, designed to build-in a substancial degree of understeer..like just about every other passenger car on the road. The early revision is so neutral handling & responsive to driver input, it's fun to drive with good handling skills = fail in most mundane hands.

Thats exactly right James ---the earlier cars have neutral handling and are great fun to drive if you have the experience and know what to expect from them and have the handling skills as you say. You also say = fail in most mundane hands and thats exactly why Toyota had to alter the suspension to suit the 'average joe' because there was a problem 'in their eyes' with 'snap oversteer' so in that sense it was not a myth.

Well, I don't know whether I should be taking the 'bait' but the Aurion is a good tourer with plenty of 'grunt' (200kw) and it handles reasonably well for its size. Mine is only the basic ATX but the more expensive Sportivo and top of the range TRD models handle better with stiffer suspension. It's a comfortable long distance car and at this stage I won't be lowering it or adding a turbo. They are a great car IMO but no car is dickhead proof---not even a Volvo.[:x)]
