I love originality especially for rare cars, and that Dutch one looks gorgeous.

BTW, note the correct spelling of "Spider"

Correct how? Spyder has been a class of car since early last century.
Like Cabriolet.

I emailed the seller and wanted to have a look at the car but he never answered his phone.

Exactly my point, it's odd that they spelt it with an "i"

Type "spider" into Carsales and you'll get 150+ results (in the carsales vehicle titles, not people spelling it wrong within their ad).

the ZZW30 was a MR2 Spyder - or MR-S
The roofless SW20 was called " MR Spider "

I would love to buy it---I think it will finish up quite a valuable classic down the track but the fact that it was a repairable write off puts me off. The guy was offered over $19,000 on e-bay--he should have taken it.

After the question was asked I thought the Forum members might like to know that I was one of the bidders on this car. I bid because I felt that it should be preserved as the model is already a classic, but after the bidding reached stratospheric heights I decided not to proceed.

I wondered at the time if the car had previously featured on the Forum so I checked and saw the pre-repair photos plus read this thread about it. After the bidding finished without reaching whatever the reserve was (I suspect $25k)we all received second-chance offers, with the first to pay $19,300.00 getting the car.

Having seen the photos in the intervening period and the story about how the car was supposedly purchased for $8k and repaired via "mates-rates" I am now glad that I chose not to proceed.

This is not to say that the seller was in any way trying to gild the lilly, or that the repairs were not good quality, but on the original sale it was said that if the car wasn't sold first up then it would be put in storage, which from the second listing on eBay at a $16k start is obviously not what is happening.

As one of the other posters on this thread noted the "repairable write-off" thing is a worry, particularly when you look at the definition of the term from Victorian legilsation:

Repairable write-off

A vehicle that has been damaged to the extent that its salvage value plus the cost of repairing the vehicle for use on the road is more than its market value (i.e. total loss) will be recorded as a repairable write-off.

Of course everyone wants to recover their outlays but when you see some of the modified cars for sale here it is certainly apparent that there are a lot of dreams that don't fit with the final reality. I think this certainly applies to this car so good luck to the seller second time around but I won't be bidding again.
