Surok; After spending that much time on getting the body good, there was no way I was going to get it rolling on the stock 14s still. It was either get some china spec 17x7 which would not fit and look crap or 17x8/9 which would look decent

Im pretty sure most/all the parts I am putting on this will be coming off when i find a nice turbo hard top (and have the funds to buy it)

Windscreen supplier still hasn't brought glass [:(!] - so haven't had much driving. I noticed there is quite of bit of 'air' coming out of the oil filler cap (is this what blowby is?). Some Google research says this could be caused by a few things - ranging from minor to major.

Long Story Short... Want to change the PCV Valve but struggling to find where it is. Looked at a diagram - but is auto and manual the same? -

If anyone has a clear diagram or even a picture could you please shoot it out my way lol

rush posting before work lol.

The issue is when you open the oil cap - there is a lot of air coming out (I read that this is called blow-by - and normal on most older cars).

The amount of air that was coming out, I assumed this wasnt normal, and researched and said it could be things from a PCV valve/worn rings/blown head gasket.

Car is in no state to drive to get a compression test done (nor am I going start jumping to worst case scenario), so was testing all i could - a PCV valve....but having a good look at my motor - all it seems to have is just a nipple with a hose going to the intake...unless i am wrong and am overlooking something (Highly Possible)

As you can tell, I dont know much about motors - and even less about MR2's

I believe blow by is when theres traces of oil in your airfilter pipe/entry to turbo. Its caused from Oil coming through the valve cover, through the pcv pipe which ends up in the airfilter. Hence some people have a catch can so no oil is getting spat through the turbo. You shouldnt be getting much oil coming through anyways.

Sorry not sure why air is coming out from oil cap...

All good. As i said still learning...thanks for the input!

Anyway - An update on this, quite a while back purchased some Tien SuperStreet Coilovers of Dylan - yet to go in, but should lower it a fair bit as 17s made it sit like a 4WD, as well as a Cusco strut brace and car cover I acquired from another MR2 that hasn't had much use.

I would seriously do a compression test asap.
I would bet your rings are gone or ready to go :(
Since this is a N/A no catch can disconnect the hose to the throttle body and see how much oil is there.
A bad PCV might not allow air to go back into the air inlet hence maybe when you open the oil cap you see air.
Vice grip the hose from the PCV valve then pull the valve of the head and then start the car . If you see a lot of air comong out your rings are shot :(

MANALADY is right. The air coming out when you open the oil cap with the engine running, particularily if it "pumps" in time with the motor is usually a good indication that your rings aren't in the best of nick. A quick dry/wet compression test will confirm, or if you have access to one, a leak down test would be another idea.

When you do the compression test, as you take out each spark plug, check each one. If you find they have a black tar substance on them, your rings are cactus, if you have a white powder on the plugs (burnt oil) your rings aren't great, but not as bad as the previous condition.

Thanks for advice guys. Once car warms up it actually isn't to bad - but will take advice and do a compression test.

Anyway - test fitted my (Front) RP01's on today with the 215/40 tyre and it cuts close. Very Close!
Will let the picture do the talking. I don't think its the tyre, more the actual rim.

Do coilovers allow for more or less room over OEM struts - starting to doubt they will even fit?

Still alot more to clean haha

This is how they sit on the car - look tiny as the car is sitting so high!

Edit: Forgot to add, windscreen got put in on sunday as well as all the glass. I also put the license plates back on the car - first time in just under 6 months!

Ready to go for a Australia Day Drive

Seriously need to invest in a better camera!
Still needs a polish, but will probably just enjoy driving it for a while, till i get bored of the automatic (Probably about 5-6 hours time)

Many gen 2 3sge motors don't have a pcv valve.
Gen 3 3sge motors do.

My 90 model NA doesn't have one, only a hose running from the valve cover to the intake manifold, and I also have a bit of blowback if I remove the oil filler cap.
My motor has 223k kms and not using much oil. Recent comp test was very good.

I found this on Toymods car club forum, taking about gen 2 3sge blowby from the oil filler with the cap off:

“i've dealt with this more then a few times, i can say from experience these motors have a little blowby no matter what. They do not have a PCV valve, they do have a fixed orifice (pipe from head to throttle body).

The sump relieves pressure thru the oil return's from the head and out that fixed orifice pipe.

With a new set of rings the blowby is reduced but there is always pulsating pressure with this motor, if your not burning oil you shouldnt worry.”

Don't know how accurate it is, but if it's not I'm sure someone on here will tell us.
