Thanks guys, after a cut and polish its looking little more representable.

I had it on the hoist today, looks like front shocks are leaking slightly, doubt will pass for roadworthy. Didn't plan to change them so soon, still hoping someone may have one at least that can be lent to me while i take car for inspection. Was planning to upgrade suspension (cant stand it) was hoping to do it later but looks to be bringing that forward.

Noticed Dash Lights are flashing, usually indication of bad alternator and/or ground. Any thing i can check on this? Battery seems to be holding charge fine..?

Yeh, all the red lights on the bottom of the cluster, very faintly though. Seems to happen more then anything when the car is idling at the lights.

Gave the outside a cut and polish, im actually really surprised by the results, apart from the obvious hail damage and the paintwork on the roof its in actually really good condition.

Engine bay (needs a bit of a clean):

G Limited of a Different (Surf SSR-G)

Also tidies up the frunk, and tracked down a spare wheel tie down.

Sorry to hijack the thread but the firewall, is that how they look without the fibrous stuff on there? Or was there two different types of heat insulation?

Haha, looks like both eyelids copped one hailstone each, but with change from $1000, who cares!! Love the colour too, also the same as mine.

IMR22C - If you're referring to the silver coloured shields on the firewall near the exhaust, mine is the same. The fibrous stuff is between those shields and the bodywork.

Surf is my old mans, Recaros yes, but the pissy 2.4L diesel.
He was the first owner since it was imported to Australia since 1997....only very recently just clocked over the 100,000km mark. Only just clicked in that is also a "G" when i had parked next to it.

Hoping to get it rego'd by this time next week, I do like the colour of it, but would be honest would love a red/black mr2 to join it.

Few small updates.

Never attempted anything like this before, but couldnt bare driving it knowing it looked like a golfball.

So Far enjoying owning, drives very well and it's so relaxing in peak hour traffic to have an auto!

Also successfully got registered!

Chase, re alternator.

Have you checked the drive belt tension?

Look down into the engine bay drivers side below the engine mount.
Get a small section piece of timber 500 mm or so long, carefully position it on the belt in the middle and push down. Should only move 10-15 mm with 10 kg pressure.
