oh that's cool - howmuch was the fan?

I think it was ~$90 from Sprint auto (SA).
Totenkopf on here sold me the blockoff shroud too.

yeah the lower hole is for the cat temp sensor which is not needed.

I dont agree with the fan being turned on by a boost trigger. You want the fan on even when your stopped to try help with heat soak.
Unless you mean once it turns on from when its triggered by the boost sensor its stays on untill you turn the car off.
If you battery and alternator or working ok it wont have a problem running the whole time.

Heat soaked from the engine ie. externally? or heat soaked internally due to boost?
I've had the fan running 100% of the time and also just had it connected with the engine bay temp switch (off most of the time), haven't noticed any difference in performance.
Actually it really should be triggered by a speed sensor too, so at say < 20 km/h, fan ON and above that OFF unless its boosting eg. under WOT conditions.

Running all the time is best I've already been through all this crap of how/when to turn the fan on etc. the draw back I now have a flat battery so as dasic1 said make sure battery and charging components are good.

heat soak from engine bay and from heat transfer in cooler itself the cooler will stay warm even after you boost it's that residual heat that you need to get rid of.

Ok the sensor I'm not using is a temp sensor :). Still will test the o2 sensor.

I'm def needing to clean my engine bay.

Yep that temp sensor connected to the engine lid is what controls the IC fan. When its unplugged fan runs 24/7.
This is the problem with side mount ICs - not much airflow, so you're always limited. No wonder people put in w2a setups with a big H.E. right at the front. Summer is here so I wont be flogging the engine anyway.

Bigh you'd be better off just sourcing a new sensor for piece of mind. They're not expensive. ~$80 for an ACA (Denso) one.

Nice I didn't know you could get those. Apparently though, having a wideband permanently installed isn't a good idea as cold starts etc all the time will kill it pretty quickly.

I also have the spare engine lid temp sensor for sale if you need one.

Cleaning the intercooler I wouldn't bother if your going to replace anyway. Get some good cleaner and clean the intake though.

Hi I've got the engine lid temp sensor - that works fine.  There's another one for the exhaust that's not connected.

I've been looking into this seafoam stuff, looks pretty good.  I'm definitely going to give the engine a good clean on Saturday :) I have so much caked on oil in the bend that connects to the turbo that I'm going to have to scrape it out or soak it in a bucket of some description!

I'm still not sure if I want to spend the money to get a new intercooler, it would be cool, but it's also $500 less towards a house ;)

Mine has the same problem with the oil caking but I've been too lazy to clean it properly, just gave the pipes a wipe out with a rag lol. I must get that catch can in soon though otherwise, my new pipes will suffer the same dirty fate. $2 spray can of degreaser will work for getting rid of most of it :)

Why don't you sell that SUPRA and you'll have enough for both? :P

nah supra's going directly for house deposit.

grab a catch can - They're really cheap on ebay now, and the piping is mega cheap too.  casue it'll fowl everything otherwise... o2 sensor blah blah.

I'm doing mine Saturday. it's going to be a fun clean job ROFL... not!

Re eBay catch can...already have one but didn't realise the fittings absolutely suck on them (too skinny) so I've been waiting MONTHS on some better fittings from this local store as they didn't have them in stock and gave me some excuse that the container from China was delayed or some **** every time I call them. Lucky I haven't given them any money yet, so I might just cancel it I'm sick of waiting for two crap fittings and should have just got them from the USA in the first place!

/end rant.

Is that after the turbo is it? ie hot pipe

I'll probably take mine off when I install the catch can and give it a degrease as well.
