id rather change it more often I think I'd do this 2 years or something like that. I don't trust my car enough for longer intervals... will see what colour it comes out next time :)

I would use the green stuff for flushing your system out, check it in a week, if dirty empty it and put fresh stuff in.
It should come clean soon enough, and once it has, get nulon red concentrate and distilled water. $50 gets you 10L.

ok sorted the o-ring out. The o-ring in the car was either worn or completely the wrong size (I'm betting on the latter). I've been in QLD this week, so got dad to source a new o-ring for me - he ended up with a genuine toyota one. Here's the difference between the two. (toyota one is bigger) But it's another day, and there's another problem with the car, electrical again. Drove to buller yesterday, which was fine. But this morning driving to the train station, both my boost gauges went black, my indicators no longer worked, and the turbo timer wasn't working.... hoping that I've just blown a fuze and nothing more... will investigate by torchlight tonight....

It probably wouldn't matter if you didn't bother with the engine block drain plug, so long as you were putting a flush mix thru the system first before adding new coolant mix. Any old coolant still left in the block would be so diluted it wouldn't matter anyway. On my 3SGE there is definitely no drain plug on the block anyway lol. As for coolant, why not use the original genuine Toyota red stuff when it doesn't cost much more than other premium brands anyway??

nah its ok I drained every last drop out of the engine - was just a major pain to get off. Also an update: Got a low torque wrench ordered for the rocker cover. Will get on and look at finalising the twosrus order this next week so I can get the front sway bar and rocker cover gasket fixed. It still perplexes me why nobody is selling an alternator cover for 3sgte engines :P would save a few alternators I'd think! I've also ordered a new diode to match the one that I found was disconnected causing yesterday's electrical issue. I intend on re-wiring (properly) the ignition wires under the dash, so that this problem doesn't happen again. And finally ordered a new dome light LED pack as my old one died. I've got two days off next week (that I'm not snowing) so will look at cleaning the engine bay then. (and installing the other linkages for the DeltaAV shifter cable set I got.) EDIT: also when the torque wrenches come hopefully I'll install the Allen bolts for the rocker cover too - to help slow the leaky engine :P

Great pics. Looks like it was fun. Did you have any problems with the handbrake? It's generally a good idea to park with it off if you leave it overnight, or it can freeze solid and be a PITA to free up.

i thought of that before i parked it, and parked with it off, and the car in gear ;) so not a problem with the handbreak. yes was a lot of fun, had to drive along a road that had deep ridges where busses had been, the lowness of the car flattened some of them :P

Ok Had a week off work last week, which was great so I had a bit of time to work on the car. My Park Tools torque wrench finally arrived from the states. 3nm-15nm range. so I could torque down the cam cover bolts properly. Seen here with the DeltaAV bolt set. (Great set by the way- except it needed instructions as to what way up the Toyota grommets were supposed to sit, but Trav cleared that up pretty quickly (I also guessed right)) Some of my cam cover bolts were FINGER TIGHT!!!! so bad! no wonder it was leaking stuff everywhere! Also one bolt was impossibly hard to reach without removing the intake manifold (something I didn't want to do) so I estimated the torque for that one (erred on the side of too tight). Then next was to swap over the shifter linkages (I had replaced the rubber ones under the shifter). Removing the stock rubber/ metal toyota ones I found this quite badly worn: Pretty bad! The other rubber wasn't worn as bad, but did have some rubber degradation! you can also see the comparison to the DeltaAV replacements (I can't recommend these highly enough). After I fixed my shifting issue, I thought I didn't need these, but having installed them - DEFINITELY worth the cash. ESP looking at my worn rubbers. I did find that I required to press them into the linkages somewhat, being metal - the tolerances were extremely tight (not a bad thing- just a bit of a job). Then I degreesed the engine bay / engine and will look for leaks. Back to Hotham this weekend - should sort anything out pretty quick.

Ok headunit is in, for the price, it's awesome. I'm starting to think of where to mount a reverse camera in the car...
Having a few electrical issues again, horn isn't working, and the ic fan not running is beginning to get to me, so starting to troubleshoot that. Tried jumpering pins 1,7 of the fan ecu, but that didn't work. It sure if I was supposed to plug it back into the ecu or not. It looks like the issue may be elsewhere. I'm wondering if the higher load killed a relay. Or something....
