so these were the condition of the rims when i got them;

all four rims were like this, could tell these ADVAN SA3Rs were really old, having the clear coat peeling off and corroding along with countless of scratch marks. SO SOMETHING HAD TO BE DONE;

black 15inch stockies took place once again for the mean time, but to be honest with no power steering in the SW20, the stock 15s are my favourite to drive on all the time.
loving the ride height too! (but then again it could be adjusted with my coilovers.)

first step was to clean all four of them, the inside of the wheels were just black!! all covered in years of brake dusts and road dirt.
being tri spoke wheels i just had to get the insides cleaned well.
f**king dirty..

it took me 2 hours just to do ONE wheel, with some wheel cleaner and constant scrubbing with a scourer and a small brush for tight spaces..
this was the result;

next step was to paint strip the rims to get the poo-ey laquer clear coat off.
it's my first time using paint stripper and doing this kind of project,
so i thought i'll experiment with one rim first instead of doing them all at once, so in that case if i screw it up it would only be one rim! [88]

after paint stripped i sanded the lip down with wet sand paper.. working my way up from 100grit - 1000grit (from my memory)
then the rims were masked down and was ready for primer.
i masked down the centre cap inner part, the valve stems and the inside of the wheel also.

rust guard primer was then applied then sanded then applied again then sanded until they were evened out (previous kerb/scratch marks)
this was time consuming, but i know i could not rush it if i wanted it to turn out how i want it to be at the end.

next up was the colour selection for the centre [}:)]

and i'll leave you guys to this for the time, i'll finish the write up tomorrow.

the chosen colour was purple.
as i said before, quiet over the black/bronze/gun metal colour for the rim choices..
a friend mentioned getting them red, but i thought the car would look like maccers on wheels (red and yellow)
purple was chosen simply because it is my favourite colour (i ain;t gay)
and i thought the yellow and purple would look great together so i went along with it......

one rim was done;

infact i had to spray the insides of the rim also because you can actually see the insides even on the car

i then started sanding/masking/prepping the other 3 rims

i tried to fix the gutter rashes as much as i could

hmmmm... doesn't look TOO BAD....

after 3 coats of purple were applied on each rim, i let it sit for a few days.
the last step was to finish it off with a clear coat.
i used the rust guard GLOSSY clear coat to finish things off; 3 coats were applied on each also.

all was pretty much done, last step was just to go to the tyre shop and wrap these babies on;

any feedback on would be great, would like to hear different opinions.

I like em!
Black or gun metal grey would look too bland on a yellow car.

OK an update on little things added from here and there..
Advans are on, but i realized i should of ran 40 instead of 50 on tyres because the rears scrubs lightly with the guard when i corner it alittle too fast
and 50s looked abit fat for my liking, would've been perfect if i ran 40 and lower it more with the coilovers.. but oh well.. trial and error comes perfect.
i am very happy with the DIY finish on the rims, i can't say its perfect.. but it was my first attempt and its that satisfaction feeling everytime i look at it which money cannot buy.
Anyway a few minor add ons.. mainly cosmetics, not ready to touch the engine yet;
-Windows were tinted 15% dark (except the front window and targa top windows).
-Orange front indicators were replaced with a clear ones and i decided to tint the side reflectors! (was too bling for my liking) turned out pretty well, something different!
-Leather TRD gearknob
and some JDM touch added with the "MR2 DANDISM" decal on the rear window and some checkered floor mats

Now waiting for the arrival of the Fujitsubo Legalis R catback exhaust from dylan!

how it stands now;

had a few comments on the car looking like the basketball team LAKERS... LOL
criticisms welcome.
