Rob's turbo peaked at around 22psi on that log, so I'd expect the temperatures to be significantly higher.  Don't forget, the temperature rise through the compressor is proportional to the pressure ratio based on the equation:  Tout=((Pout/Pin)^0.283*Tin-Tin)/E+Tin where T are temp in Kelvin, P are absolute pressure, and E is compressor efficiency.

Given ambient of 20 deg C (293K) and 75% efficiency, compressor outlet temp is 135 deg C @ 22psi !
At 10psi with all other conditions equal, compressor outlet is 81 deg C.

I think it's about time I get my Phoenix Power rear corners fitted and painted, and my left side skirt repaired. Can anyone suggest a good place to get this done? Preferably somewhere near Revesby or Hurstville.
My rear bumper could possibly do with a respray at the same time, because I once sprayed too close with a high pressure hose on the flexible bumper and I ended up with a small area of spider-web cracks in the paint.

Surely someone on here has had body kit work done somewhere in Sydney?
It doesn't have to be near Revesby or Hurstville, that's just a preference.
I know I could just ask a panel beater, but I've had no experience with any in Sydney yet.

That place is about 2 mins from me, but I get a bit of a dodgy vibe from them, even if most of their work is good. Someone has suggested Moorebank Bodyworks which is also fairly close to me, so I might try them.

I personally would steer away from that place.  Unless you are in with that particular crowd then they won't give you
the right service.  And they will make you really pay for it

I assume you mean Queen St, not Moorebank Bodyworks.
I was thinking the same thing about Queen St.

my friend went through QSR and he knew the owners. He put 22" chromes on his Accord Euro and dropped it with a leather interior, down lights and a full fibreglass dash.
Nice for sitting at shows and won a heap of awards but just too "showoffish" is that's a word.  Anyone agree?

Yeah I've only ever seen excessively blingy cars parked out the front when I drive past, which is many times per week. I often hear revving Ferrari engines from where I live down the road from there too lol.

I dropped my car at Moorebank Bodyworks this morning. When they're done with it next week, I decided that I'm also going to take it across the road to Liverpool Exhaust and get them to change my exhaust tips to make them sightly larger diameter and slightly less tapered. This will give me the same sort of look of most aftermarket exhausts, but I'll retain the great sound of my custom exhaust system.

Everything has been going great with my car for months...until tonight. My MR2 has just had its first (potentially) serious mechanical failure since I got it. Something transmission-related is now f**ked. At least it's not the engine though, that would be much more annoying.

Basically, I can no longer select 5th gear at all. There also seems to be an issue selecting reverse.
I was accelerating pretty hard, and something went wrong while I was trying to change up to 5th gear. I don't know if I stuffed up the gear change and put too much force on the shifter cables, or if something has broken inside the gearbox. It happened so fast and unexpectedly, I don't remember the specifics. I don't know if it happened while trying to engage 5th gear, or immediately after engaging 5th gear (if it ever engaged at all).

Here are the current symptoms:

- When I try to change into 5th gear, there is no shifter resistance at all, and it doesn't engage at all.
- When I try to select reverse gear, there is some shifter resistance, but it doesn't 'click' into gear properly.
- Gears 1-4 all seem totally fine.
- This last thing is possibly the most interesting observation...there is quite a lot of fluid sprayed around the gearbox region, I don't know exactly where it is coming from.

Given the above, what are your thoughts?

Fortunately the car is still driveable in the first 4 gears, but I don't know if I should be driving it when there is fluid all over the gearbox area, and when I can't reliably select reverse.

Sorry to hear of your badluck.
I hate that feeling of dread when you suspect something big has gone wrong

I would not drive it right now.

You could be doing more damage to the gearbox which equals more dollars to fix.

Get it towed to your trusted mechanic and have it diagnosed.  Good luck with it.
