On my car there is a lip ontop of the factory Sub box.
I made my box a snug fit so it doesn't move at all.

I like the velcro idea, that would be very simple and effective for normal driving. I wonder whether it would be sufficient on the odd occasion when I go to track days though?
dasic1's idea sounds very robust, but a little more tricky.
I don't think I'll find a better solution than either of those anyway, thanks guys!

you could weld a nut to a piece of steel much like a harness backing plate and have that slipped in behind the firewall carpet. then just bolt the box to the nut through the carpet. and when you want to remove it, you can just undo the bolt, remove the box, undo some clips and then pull back the carpet and remove the backing plate and nut...

Is there an alternate for good bass using the JDM placement in the storage compartment behind the passenger seat?

The stock system is very good as far as imaging, depth , balance and is very linear ! This is a RTA of only the FRONT SPEAKERS, Tweeters and door speakers OEM and new........... Uploaded with ImageShack.usGEE a lot of car audio freaks would die to get a linear responce like this. But its only part of the whole equation

??[xo] Yeah... But like I ask what sort of weird ar$e speaker looks like the JDM business and gives a good bass punch without annoying people more than 100m away? (People within 100m are welcome to enjoy the bass and kick drum and try to guess the song...) I've seen a few nice looking setups for big speakers behind the passenger seat - once in a blue moon i'm the passenger and cant afford to lose any tilt space. So would you suggest to fit one in the lid of the storage compartment and use the carpet covered hole for porting or is there a punchy little low frequency air mover that would do?

Are you sure that's not the factory subwoofer too? The peak at 100Hz would surely not be from the factory door speakers. What is the dB scale of the bars on that analyser?

You don't miss anything do you Greg! [:p] I wouldn't want to remove it every time I go to the track. Track days for me are all about the fun, so I don't care if I lose a few tenths because of the extra weight!

OK google USD SPEAKER WORKS . Read up on aperiodic membranes and then you will see how i did my sub enclosure some 25 years ago. 2 x 15 in a 0.3 cubic foot box. IF YOU ARE PREPARED to cut a hole in the floor and reienforce it with a rectangle rim all you need to do is put 2 by 5.5 inch long throw subs into each cubby hole and it will be flush. Read the white paper and see why its the only way and that about 95% of all winning cars has the amperiodic membrane, and so do i in my competition BMW

No sub. 3 bd scale.
That analysis shows the same response at 25Hz as 2kHz, couldn't possibly be just the stock MR2 front speakers. The fronts do nothing at 25Hz, even the factory sub is struggling. Are you sure you've put up the right pic, and not an analysis of your BMW (which would make more sense)?
