Naturally, if the switch is disconnected or removed (while removing A/C) same thing will happen. The fans themselves are controlled by the A/C amplifier via the froot mounted relays. They have two speeds effected by series or parallel connection of the motors, and should normally only run on low speed (series connection) when the radiator water reaches a preset temp. High speed is only for abnormal conditions, ie. very high radiator temp or A/C over pressure.
I started looking into this today (just to reiterate, at least one of the two fans at the front of the car had been running constantly with the ignition switch on). I just checked the behaviour of all 4 relays associated with the cooling fans, and all of the relays are operating correctly when removed from the car. This means that the issue lies in the temperature sensor in the radiator, or the A/C amplifier. I'm not sure if the A/C pressure switch could cause this too.

I haven't read the whole thread but have you checked the wiring is connected to the sensor on the drivers side of the rad?

Yeah it is still plugged in. I haven't tried unplugging it to see if that makes a difference, but usually that would FORCE the fans to run, but in this case they always run anyway with it plugged in.

It's on the back of the radiator on the right hand side, it may be easier to get to from the bottom of the car.

I decided that I'm going to reassemble my fuse box and put it back in the engine bay where it came from, as it looks like too much of a pain to put it in the boot. I feel like an idiot for pulling it apart in the first place! I wasted about 3 hours on it, and I cut some wires which I'll now have to reconnect. Gaaaaah. Now for some other bad news...I didn't want to rush to mention this on the forum, but last week we discovered that Full Race sent the wrong exhaust manifold! It's for a Gen 3 instead of a Gen 2, and that's why I didn't realise, because they look very similar. My mech only realised when he went to trial fit it about a week after I got it! Soooo, I have to wait about 2-3 more weeks for them to send the Gen 2 one to me There is plenty of other work that can be done in the mean time, but it may slow things down a little.

haha I always take pics straight away because I work in the same building as my mechanic, but I always have to wait til I get home to upload the photos because that's where I keep the cable for connecting my phone to my computer. I'm about to go and reconstruct my f**king fuse box lol.

Yeah, and fortunately the exhaust manifold has been literally the only mistake so far!
I almost finished re-assembling the fuse box just then.
Oh and my clutch arrived today aswell, which is the last of the major parts!

***2013 EDIT: The A2W intercooler setup is changing completely from what is shown here!* ** The A2W intercooler setup is starting to take shape (keep in mind that the engine is only temporarily back in the engine bay, suspended by a chain on one side, and I still have to paint the cam cover and clean the throttle body and intake plenum etc):

Looks nice!!
How are you thinking of cleaning up the intake manifold. Ours has the same weathered look. Trying to decide between cleanup or polish (only the top part you can see).
Cheers

I'm not sure yet. My mech put the plenum through a special machine (I don't know what it's called, but I think it spins around and 'washes' parts with degreaser etc), and that hardly cleaned it at all. We are going to try sand blasting it and if that doesn't work I don't know lol. It would be awesome if it could have the polished look. Actually, tonight was the first time that I had considered the possibility of painting the plenum and throttle body black, hmmm.
