Haha, I was at Lee's yesterday afternoon and he said you had been there during the day, finishing up your motor. Should have recognised his busted up old hoist in those previous pics :D

Funny! I'd kill for even a busted up old hoist... and somewhere to mount it.

so you just removed the balance shafts from the block? Just the reason i ask is whats said in road & track article about how to build a 5s but its easier for me find a later model block quote: The 5s engine was available in 2 different generations. The first 5sf engine used a block that is outwardly similar to the 3sf or 3sg, however it did not use a oil cooler under the filter, nor piston oil squirters. The 2nd generation of them used a totally different block, bulged out near the bottom and with counterbalance arrangement built in to the sump. These later engines have a crank to drive the counterbalance that is in the sump. Avoid these.

MMM never read that before. There are heaps of people out there using this block without any dramas. Did he give any reasons why to aviod these?

Dont think there is any reason.
Its what everyone uses in the states. The counter balance gear can be pressed off if you wish to save a little weight. doesn't matter either way provided the crankshaft has been balanced.

Well I've finally gotten around to bolting my motor in, not long til it's back home n I can start the scary task of wiring up the ecu. That will be a steep learning curve but one I need to do. and Now the clean new bits are in the rest looks dirty as and don't worry about my rust coloured exh mani its washed off my old exh studs and I'll be making a heatshield for it anyway. I'm thinking my bay needs a respray aswell, oh well next round.

I'm also thinking of using my heater lines above the fuel tank for my IC pipes. I figure this will keep things alot cleaner. What do you guys think?

nice and clean, looking great.
personally i dont like the heater pipe as cooler pipe idea. would prefer it to have some airflow over the pipes (some free surface cooling)

I started to run them under the car then realised they were right next to the coolant pipes, which get hot obviously. I reckon the heater pipes should stay heaps cooler than these. You don't think so?
