different dust shields vs brake type?

After installing my willhelm geo kit I have had a very slight grinding noise turning left. This has been narrowed down to the dust shield contacting the disc as the lower balljoint touches the shield on compression now.
But I have now realised the car has what appears an earlier dust shield on the left (non slotted https://mr2-ben.co.uk/products/349) and a newer on the right. The right disc also has a larger offset from the disc edge to the shield, is this normal as the left fits snug as I would have expected. The car has the 36t30 stamped calipers on the front and the 22v on the rear.  Have I got just a mismatched shield or am I missing something?

Those dust shields are very bendable - I took mine off. My motorbikes have never had them and those are not hidden by the wheel.
