Camshaft timing problem

Hi
I read lots of good stuff on camshaft timing but I still can't get it to work.
I skimmed a bit off my head and got adjustable (Blox) cam gears, as advised by the shop.
I still have stock cams in my 1989 AW11 with big port 4AGE, , so according to Bob Sherwood I am looking to reach full exhaust opening at about 110 degrees BTC.
I found my TDC with the proper tool, and it was bang on the factory dot.  I then fitted up a dial gauge on the valve.  However instead of reaching full opening at 110 degrees of crankshaft rotation I found it at 155 degrees.
That was too much for me, so for the moment  I matched the Blox up with the factory cam gears (so timing about as from the factory) and then advanced the cams by about 4 degrees.

Why did I end up with the wild cam timing for full opening?  Should I believe it and time for full opening?

Thanks for your thoughts!
