Nik_Lee's New Toy WARNING it's non Toyota.

Hi Guys,

As quite a few of you know I sold my beloved MR2 and I believe it has gone to a good home where it will be well taken care of and hopefully it will turn up at a few meets in Sydney.

So anyway the decision to sell the MR2 was made due to the fact that it was sitting in the garage most of the time and I was getting less and less time to drive it, also my partner felt we would be better off going from 3 cars back to two. So after some discussions I agreed to sell my MR2 and she agreed to sell her JCW Mini as long as we were replacing it with something that would still be fun to drive and it met the requirements that we both wanted.
So my requirements were
* It had to be a 2 door
* It had to be turbocharged
* It had to have a manual transmission
* It had to be ether rear or all wheel drive
* It had to have something about the car that made it a little unique and interesting

Olivia's requirements were
* It had to have a manual transmission
* It had to be turbocharged
* It had to have a back seat

And so after a bit of searching that included things like 135i and 235i BMW's and even the MK6 Golf R 3 door we both decided on an Audi TT RS
So then the next requirement for a TT RS was it had to ether be red or bright blue and that may have been a challenge as most of the TT RS that were for sale were white, silver, grey or black I don't understand Audi buyers affliction to these shades and the avoidance of interesting colours. Anyway as luck would have it a red manual RS came up for sale with a dealer in Brisbane and thankfully all dice fell into place and I was able to secure it the day the deposit was placed on my MR2, then on the 1st of March Olivia and I flew up to Brisbane and picked it up.

So without further ado some pictures of the new toy.

    Red. Tick.

How do you find it to drive compared to the MR2? Does it provide the same enjoyment/drama?

I haven't really had a chance to get it out on a nice twisty road yet but so far it does provide plenty of enjoyment and drama.
The acceleration catches you out as you end up piling on a lot more speed than you realize so that's something you need to be mindful of, but the soundtrack of the 5cyl engine just puts a grin on your face every time.

    Congrates Nikki,
Gtret to see you made an excellent choice. Another MR2 owner also bought a Audi which proved to be quite the weapon!
Enjoy the driving. Join us in October for the BBQ at the trackday challenge.

Well this was unexpected. I was thinking lotus or porsche maybe haha but it's certainly more practical than either of those. It's scary how quick they can get speed up just modern fast cars haha

I do love these cars though so great choice. I'd love to see some interior shots as I've always preferred the Audi interiors of all German manufacturers. Are you going to be doing all the maintenance on it yourself or becoming best friends with Twilight Automotive?

Well one day hopefully I would love to add a 2017.5  Lotus Elise Sport 220 but that will be after the house is paid off and I can justify having a toy that probably wont be driven a lot again, a bit like the MR2 was. ;)

I am really enjoying the TT though and that 5cyl sound is just so addictive and makes the whole experience just feel more special.
so here are a couple of interior shots for you and the engine :)

Oh yeah and in answer to that question, yes I always have and always will do all of my own work. I just don't see a point in paying someone to do something I can do myself.

Nice pick! I had the same model except without the (R) badge & 1 cylinder short. I bought mine back in 2009 new & sold it 2 years ago.

I love subtle design of the interior. The 5cyl does sound incredible. I will be interested to hear your thoughts after a few months of ownership.

That interior is really nice, I'm a big fan of the cluster and flat bottom wheel. Great job with wanting to do maintenance on the cars, I thought you might be hesitant as these can require new tools torx etc.

Any subtle design flaw or are you absorbed by the whole thing haha is it a bi modal exhaust where you can change the tone or is it 110% raspy goodness?

Oh the maintenance is not a big issue for me and I do have a reasonably extensive tool set from all of my years working on Caterpillar equipment, what I am more interested in is getting myself Vagcom so I can do my own coding on the car.
So far there isn't anything I have noticed that really bugs me the only thing that does seem a little annoying is the rear view mirror almost seems too small and feels like it doesn't give the best rearward visibility but if that's all I have to complain about its not too bad haha.
Yes it has the bi modal exhaust so you can quieten it up a bit to keep the neighbors happy when I am leaving at 5am.
