broly = black sw20 3sgte hardtop

Hi All,
first post.

Bought this MR2 in the photos a few months ago, bought it sight unseen from melbourne. previous owner on here?
i do a lot of sprints and a few hillclimbs and sold my mx5 not long ago to buy this. i wanted a rear engine experience.
so this is it for the next 2 years of track abuse.

Shes bit rough in the paint as the clear is failing but honestly not too bad. everything was mostly was stock except cusco strut braces, straight through exhaust, I had to have the dash lights fixed and do overdue general servicing, ive thrown out the audio rubbish, ive fitted teins, velo race seats, new brakes braided lines, new simmons with nt01s (simmons because they had the offsets i wanted in stock and cheap, i fitted a greddy boost controller, running 10 on low and 14 on high. km on the engine are unknown, so a rebuild sooner or later is expected.

Great car, handles amazing now, i like the way it starts to slide and i can power down and it seems to squat and the rear grips more and can powersteer out of corners. steering is light and so precise, not a hint of understeer. i can confidently power the whole way down through the kink in the straight at lakeside. only thing i dont like is the brakes! where is the feel? they stop me but damn i feel like i putting my foot through the firewall, i bought a cusco brake stopper on ebay so hopefully that helps.

hello everyone i met at noosa hillclimb i think you said this is the forum, i joined your qld club johnny!
it was nice to meet you all.

some bad news is, I think i have leaking oil seal in the turbo, yet to be diagnosed 100%. doesnt smoke at idle, but lets out a puff after a gear change from high boost, you can see some smoke from the pipe in the below photos. im checking the intercooler piping for oil deposits when i can.

i bought a kei office front bar and kei office side skirts which are waiting to be fitted and will repaint the whole car eventually.

Congrats on your purchase, enjoy learning the limits in a safe environment. Mr2 often puff at high boost gear changes (running rich) and many need the injectors ultrasonic cleaned to re-establish better atomisation (general comment). Take you ur time doing checks and measures, as many service items / common needed upgrades (like walbro fuel pump, injectors cleaned, new spark plugs etc) before pushing the car :)

Think DVS_MR2 has a poly bushing kit at a great price in Brisbane. Highly recommend anyone in Motorsport / hill climbs with their Mr2 to change bushings if not done, sharpens the handling. As well as kirkasaurce engine mount inserts. However upgrades are another longer conversation.

    Enjoy

Welcome to the forum and the Qld club. Was good to meet you at the Noosa Hillclimb.
Great day.  I watched for that smoke you had spoken about. Yes it appears to be blue and quite a significant amount.
It's as though it happens at the let off during the gear change and then continues to burn off for about 3 seconds.
Doubt the brake stopper will make much difference. I have a similar ongoing brake problem. Very interested if you can solve it. Can you get down for the Christmas do at Mount Cootha ??
    Cheers.

Fixed the smoke issue, someone had hooked up the lines to the catch can incorrectly, was still getting some blow by, but nothing bad. Mechanic then removed the cat as it was just a melted lump of metal blocking the flow and put in the dump pipe from ebay.

Car was running great around lakeside sounded awesome to, but then on the last session, felt a little down on power at the end past the kink at lakeside, rounded carousel as soon as im back on the power and i hear a loud bang bang bang bang bang, limped back to the pits and its parked up for a while now. bearing i guess.

I have a spare engine turbo etc out of a GT4, but it needs work... anyway... better start saving. dropping the engine doesn't seem out of my expertise and with some help from friends a rebuild should be doable. wish me luck.

Which downpipe did you use? I've heard there's some fitment issues with certain ones, and my cat is also on the way out

i wasn't aware of any issues.

i thinking about going to 1mz v6 swap this. ive been doing a lot of reading online. how much harder is it to use a ecu out of a auto camry? i read it will throw codes, but do i care? is it hard to work around that? the manual camrys seem to be rare and a bit more pricey.
