Question about turbo

Hi,
I recently bought an MR2 turbo as a project and am trying to understand what exactly the previous owner has done to the car.

The BOV vacuum lines that ran to the manifold vacuum have been disconnected and the port on the front of the turbo has been connected to the manifold line.

Don't know how easy it is too see but the tube zip tied onto the front of the turbo runs to manifold vacuum. I'm pretty new to turbos so would someone be able to enlighten me as to why he set it up the way it is?
Would it not just be allowing a small amount of the compressed air directly into the manifold?

I'd like to reconnect the BOV but I need to figure this out before I go buying parts.
Cheers.

Sounds not right, however hard to see in the image and completely understand what you refer to. Best to see a a fellow club member in your area (compare engine bays).
Also lots of online images to assist and Toyota bgb.
The factory ct26 turbo is water and oil cooler, so should be twin connection to oil from underneath and twin water lines facing the engine. Line on the housing connected to wastegate actuator.
The factory blow off valve needs a line connected to the manifold to reference the pressure. Should have a plastic VTV one way valve that I can’t see (expensive, $80 plus postage from puremr2).

When buying a project, especially a 25 year old Mr2, best to go through all the fundamentals, replace known fail items and then drive with confidence and reliability.

Cheers, I've set it back up as it would be in a factory state. I believe the previous owner was trying to get more boost out of it but parts were missing.

I've ordered the parts I'll need to reconnect the stock BOV.
