180 Kph Speedo - Sufficient

Hi All, the speedo on my 1990 Turbo import maxes out at 180kph. I am concerned that won't be enough for Eastern Creek.
My engine is stock and only boosting up to about 9psi but that will change at some stage.
What happens when the speedo is exceeded... I presume it might break something, but maybe not ??
If I get a "bigger" speedo, does the cable drive etc need to be modified ?

If you're in a JDM GT you won't be going over 180 anyway

Fit a HKS speed cut defender this will remove the speed limiter for good. I’ve done Eastern Creek in my SW20 Turbo and only reached 227KPH not that I was watching but that was the data I had for the long straight.

If you got over 180km, the needle will just get to a point where it sits against a needle stop. Revs will continue to raise, I've done many times on track with no damage to speedo needle etc.

    Thanks for the responses.
Re Carmikey's last response, I wonder if there is some "clutchy" type mechanism that allows the needle to stop while the cable keeps increasing....if so, you'd expect eventually that wear would lead to loss of accuracy ?
Of course that might lead to replacement with the 260kph cluster anyway.

I didn't realise there is a speed limiter in the car.....will have to read up on that.
I presume the car is JDM, it's a grey import....
