I am an electronics technician, so I may be available to perform this fix for people in Sydney. Let me do mine first, and I will let you all know if I am prepared to do it for others too.

Admin do you want a set of caps from my Digi-key order to do you st205 ecu? They are likely exactly the same.

No thanks. I was going to pop into Jaycar on Saturday and pick some up. I have a spare stock ST205 ECU that I will do first. The one in the car is a Blitz.

I would be wary of using Jaycar caps, should really be using good quality like Panasonic if you want it to last 👍

I took the advice of others on those threads I linked and went with quality brands that you can't get at Jaycar.
105C rated low ESR caps from the 4 reputable Japanese capacitor companies Rubycon, Nippon Chemi-con, Panasonic & Nichicon.

👍 I am an electronics technician as well and don’t really rate the stuff from jaycar or altronics, only use them if it’s a quick fix and not mission critical

I've had no success getting hold of Michael (guy who replaces ECU caps) - nicks link above. I've tried contacting him with no response thru both Gumtree, eBay and also sent him a SMS. Has anyone else had similar issues?

It is true that the higher temperature electrolytic caps are better (i.e. 105c) though you can still go with cheaper options if you choose a higher voltage rating. For example, if you have a 10uF 50V, you can go with a 10uF 63V or 100V. These will have a similar life to a 10uF 50V 105c cap. Higher voltage types are generally larger, so if there is lots of room, it is OK to go for a 10uF 63V or 100V cap from Jaycar.

There are sellers on eBay that sell the 105c caps.

Wait for me to see how I go with mine and I might be prepared to do the job for a similar price.

I bought them from Digi-Key which is based in the US. They have all the good brands and are cheap. Postage is high though. I paid around $20 for 3 day UPS postage. https://www.digikey.com.au/ These are the CAPs I used which are the correct ones for a gen 3 3sgte ecu. I went with United Chemi-Con and Panasonic. C816 = 50v 10uf C895 = 50v 10uf 565-1702-ND on Digikey - United Chemi-ConC002 = 63v 47uf P15285CT-ND on Digikey - PanasonicC101 = 10v 100uf -> 50v 100uf C894 = 10v 100uf -> 50v 100uf 565-3581-ND on Digikey - United Chemi-ConC823 = 35v 15uf -> 63v 15uf 565-1718-ND on Digikey - United Chemi-ConC004 = 35v 33uf P14434-ND on Digikey - PanasonicC105 = 10v 220uf -> 50v 220uf P12397-ND on Digikey - PanasonicYou could use any brand you want for the CAPs as long as you use the suitable values. The price difference between cheap Jaycar ones and quality ones is not much. No need to compromise on quality when both options are super affordable. My car is still running great by the way and super smooth. I fitted the fuel pressure gauge via the Blox adapter today and the pressures were spot on as per the BGB.

Howdy, Admin. Is there a great deal of difference between the quality of the standard ECUs in AWs vs SWs? My AW is having it's 30th birthday this year & might appreciate a bit of ECU maintenance. What sort of dollar value would you be looking at for overhaul?

Quick update on my ECU repair of replacing 2 of the 8 CAPs. The only two visibly faulty. Quite cold in Sydney this morning so I thought I'd test out my car when cold. Before the repair, driving under cold start conditions (before warmed up) the car would drive like crap. Could only use a small amount of throttle to stop hesitation/bucking. After the repair it is smooth as. Start car when cold (prob about 10c) and drive straight away. Amazing. I'm still keen to get a professional to replace all the CAPs in my spare ECU as it's too much mucking around IMO (unless you are experienced of course) The guy I found on Ebay and Gumtree seems to be poor at replying back to inquires. I found his business though which may be a better way to reach him. https://www.electronicsrevived.com.au/
