new member. looking for info on celica 3sgte into sw20 na swap

Hey people. Hoping to get some links or information on whats need for this type of swap. Ive had a dig around Google but cant seem to find anything. I currently own a 91 aus delivered sw20 (NA). I've managed to source a 1994 celica 3sgte that I want to swap into it. Any relevant information would be great thanks. I Have a mechanic that can do the work.

Your mechanic who can do the work should guide you.

You mentioned engine, not; ecu, intercooler, driveshafts, e153 gearbox, hubs, brakes, wiring looms, and other aspects needed.  My advice; sell the N/A, sell the 3sgte celica engine and buy a mr2 that is factory turbo built as they are available.  Turbo cars have a lot of differences not just the engine.  Too long to list in what you will go through to do a true conversion and achieve a reliable n balanced mr2 equal to a turbo built car.  With the time and money spent to do a conversion and supporting mods, better/less costs usually to sell the N/A and buying a turbo car.

How many of the parts needed are interchangeable from the celica 94?

I've done a ST205 Engine Swap into a Gen II 3sgte MR2, so am somewhat familiar with the process. (This was a turbo to turbo swap, not NA to turbo)

I do agree with Tony. I'm sure you'd be financially much better off selling them both and just getting a factory turbo.

I'd need alot more information before I can give any sort of advise. Its a 1994 Celica, so is it a ST205 or a ST185?

What ancillaries did you get? ECU, Gearbox, alternator, intercooler.

Regardless of this, you'd need to: Upgrade your brakes (both front and rear). upgrade your front radiator (Yes, NA is different to turbo), find the relevant engine wiring harness for the Gen engine your have, unless you want to make your own loom. Possibly source a E153 gearbox with driveshafts. Source a MR2 water neck that connects to the engine block.

Good luck if you decide to go ahead with it! (Its a much bigger task than I undertook)

Hey guys,   i havev a similar situation,   i bought a Sw20 GT 1990 import im rebuilding the motor to be a forged etc.  The turbo has now been rebuilt with billet wheel too.

The body kit on the GT is sh#thouse and the leather seats are fairly rooted too ( quotes of $1500 per seat to be re done).

The other night i manged to score a sw20 G-Limited 1990 import with stuffed 3sge motor and auto trans ($700) .  The interior is in very good condition and the body is in better condition that the GT.
So my friends and i are keen to put the new forged engine and gear box etc into the G-limited. One of the friends was concerned about the value of the "GT" factory model vs a G-limited with GT motor, gear box, turbo and plenty of other parts too such as engine lid , door skins, dash etc.

Does it really matter if its true GT ( vin plate ) or is it really about the motor/running gear  plus 25 psi boost !!

    Thanks guys

G-limited model is the full speced JDM sw20 model just minus the turbo running gear. It should also have the electronic folding side mirrors aswell if a true one.

Well yes and no, if you could compare a JDM GT vs a JDM G-limited (converted to turbo) of similar condition and age I reckon the GT would be worth more - conversions don't seem to appeal as much to people when they are buying.

Totally agree with dudeman, but in spec wise, they would be near identical.
