SW20 Factory Subwoofer enclosures

Hi everyone,

Just a quick question, with the factory subwoofer's for the SW20 were they located on only one side of the car or were they located on both sides of the car?
I am thinking of trying to track down a factory box to retrofit a newer sub into and was not sure if they were available for both sides or just one side.

Cheers,
Nikayla

I have a JDM model. It has the 1 box on one side. Behind the passenger I think.
The other side is a storage locker.

And now my friend, the first rule of Italian driving. Whatsa behind me (breaks rear view mirror off and tosses it behind him), is not important!

Ah ok do you know if it's possible to get them for both sides? I wonder if left and right hand vehicles had them on opposite sides which may make it possible to get them for each side.
Going to see what I can track down.

If anyone has a good condition box they are looking to sell please let me know.

Pretty sure they made them for both sides, which car got what all depends on trim level, year made and where it was sold i'd think.

I have the factory premium 7 speaker system...not sure if it would accept an extra sub wired in. The premium was the highest level I think. 2 tweeters..2 door....2 rear behind seats 1 sub.

I'm not running a factory head unit or speakers mine and would not be a problem to add in the extra subs, it has 6 speakers currently with the 2 tweeters, 2 in the doors and 2 behind the seats as well. I would just like to add in a couple of small subs to add a little more low end sound quality which I think a couple of 5" subs in the factory locations would help with without having the tacky look of big aftermarket subs.

Check out the pic in here.  I can see what looks like 2 sub boxes but can't tell if they're left and right.

They are definitely left and right boxes, you can see the opposing angles on them. There's a pair on ebay, so they do exist.

I'd be tempted to put the speakers in the storage lids, sure they won't give super vibrating bass but they should sound ok if you can secure the lid firmly. I have seen a few pics of it done, doesn't look too bad.

I have sent him a PM about those boxes, nice spotting guys thank you.

Dudeman I have also seen them mounted in the lids but I would prefer to go with the factory boxes which would be much more discreet I think.

Hey let us know which subs you get to retro fit into the boxes, I want to replace my factory ones because they're falling apart.

The only ones I know that fit in the stock location are the Band W5-1138SM 5-1/4" but it requires trimming the metal from the sub removing the excess to fit into the stock location. Only place I know to get them is from the US.

Now thats the big question! I can't imagine they give filling rattling bass, more of a fill sound I bet.
