MR2 Mark 3 (spyder) 2grfe TRD supercharger swap, HELP ME!!!

HI everyone.

I have a MR2 Spyder 2000 SMT 5 speed. 1 Tank of petrol = 1-2 Litres of engine oil (FML). This is why i need an engine swap.
Have tried looking for celica GTS cheaply - Did not happen. Most engines have 250,000 km+ from salvage with price value of $1,500 - $2,000 average. On the market, celica GTS manual goes for 8k+ for (100,000km - 180,000km).

Found myself a 2grfe supercharger from an AURION for a relatively OK price for value and Kilometres (<90,000 ish).

I currently have from the Aurion,
- TRD ECU
- Wiring harness (do not know if i need it)
- Engine (obviously)
- TRD blower
- Aurion Gearbox (dont know what model or code number)
- And owner will let me get anything else left from the Aurion.

Previous Owner is pulling engine out of car and the Aurion still has most parts - But i do not know if i need anything off the Aurion and should advise him if i need anything before it gets thrown away.

And my probelm is that I have never done a swap before and have never worked on another engine apart from a 2zz-ge maintenance perspective.

So, anyone here knows what i need to buy / do / tips?

1) I think i might have to buy a SW20 turbo gearbox, maybe some shifter cables? what about foot pedals? can i use the Aurion's feet pedal? and the Cluth pedal?

2) Engine mounts? Are there any made yet for this? I know of Gouky's standard 2grfe mounts, but what about the TRD supercharger 1?

3) Clearance? Would like to NOT cut the firewall into the driver/passenger area.

4) Brakes? The guy i got the 2grfe Supercharger has got Aurion TRD brakes + rotars - Do they work for the MR2 spyder?

5) Oil pan? custom Or is there 1 made already?

6) Wiring? Any harness available? like the 1zz-fe TO 2zz-ge swap harness?

7) Coolant? Can I use MR2 spyder's orginal coolant system or a different 1? or just different Coolant?

8) Exhaust system? I think i might just (learn) to wield the exhaust (mid pipe + exit tip) - But what about Exhaust headers? can i use TRD Aurion's exhaust headers?

9) Engine itself? Anything that I should change / swap out of the 2grfe engine? Like is some parts on the engine faulty?

For your reference, I have never done a swap before. I know general car terms / maintenance. So if you can plz use simple language if you can plz...

Thx guys.

    Hi Chris,

The 2GR swap is a fairly involved process. I believe that the spyder requires some notching to the subframe to be able to fit? I have only done a TRD 2gr swap into an sw20 so i dont know about your car. Best to check American forums for more info as I have seen a few there

You will have to make a bracket to mount the aurion accelerator pedal. If you want a manual gearbox you will need a turbo gearbox, shifter cables, drive shafts, hubs, clutch and flywheeel. However you may need to modify some of these components to fit the spyder.

Standard exhaust headers are very large and aim the wrong direction. Gouky makes custom headers for about $700US.

As far as I am aware, no one makes a wiring harness to suit your conversion

This is just a breif overview of what is required. I only know SW20's so some information could be incorrect.

In saying that however, please be cautious. This is a very involved project, and it took me a lot of time, money and shops to finish it. I believe that the learning curve will be extremely steep since you have only done general maintenance

I recommend reading build threads of 2gr swapped spyders

    Cheers

You wont get a 2GR in a Spyder without major chassis work.

Plenty of decent 2ZZ's around - just picked up a nice one with rebuilt gearbox for a song :)

I have done this engine/box conversion. many, many man-weeks of work. will probably be impossible to register without major expensive/engineering tests and inspections, especially the cut subframe. i was able to do it all myself , but i would not take it on for a customer.

i can answer all your question if you are really committed to going ahead with it
