Hose from hell!!!

Hey Guys, my hose from hell has burst and need to try and get it fixed but the mechanic quoted $500 plus. Does anyone know anyone who has done this before? Thanks

That sucks dude, hope you weren't far from home when it went!
There's plenty of guys on here that have replaced their HFH, it's a bit of a pain, they don't call it the hose from hell for no reason... but its doable if you're mechanically minded, I believe it's easier if you have an aftermarket dump pipe.
There is a fair bit of labour involved if you get your mechanic to do it, there's a few things in the way like intake piping and the oil cooler which need to be removed.
It's probably a good idea to replace the Hose from Hell on Earth (HFHOE) while you're in there, and as the oil cooler is coming off you might want to replace the gaskets / o-rings on that too.
    Good luck!

Yeah. Yer can tell who has done one. Bleeding from elbows down.
Do it yourself. Great way to gain a better appreciation for why you pay a mechanic.
Don't be a woose .  Wouldn't do any harm to say where you are either.
Someone may be willing to recommend an experienced mechanic in your area.

Might be a good time to look at replacing all of your cooling system hoses and flush your cooling system whilst your at it, if your car hasn't had all of the hoses done than its probably only a matter of time before another hose lets go.

Hey Nik_Lee, I'm actually going to order some red silicone hose replacements so will have to do it a couple of weeks later. But it is on the list :) I have ordered the HFHOE so will replace that at the same time.

Toyota don't have the HFH in stock and is a 3 week wait so will have to just use normal heater piping. Anyone know what size I need? Thanks

I recently purchased a MR2 without a engine, i'm going to add this to the list of parts to change when I get a engine, is there anything else you're replacing at the same time in that area attycuz?

While I'm back that way there is the Hose from Hell on Earth, which is a bent heater hose, all the gaskets and the oil filter.

+1 for doing it yourself great way to learn about your car and simultaneously give yourself multiple lacerations. It's a question of removing the dump and oil cooler and any other things in the way e.g. dipstick or even thermostat housing if its a real squeeze.

USE THE TOYOTA OEM HOSE it comes with heat shielding and clips that are super easy to put on. You could use ordinary hose with heat shielding around it but its far easier to just do it with the proper tool. Sucks that its a 3 week wait, I had to wait that long for a gasket. Replace all the hoses you can really its a great idea with the age of these cars and all. I didn't do the HFHOE because it was hard enough getting the clamp undone for it. But if you got more than 5 hours to spare its a great investment.

Sounds like nearly as much fun as doing an Alfasud handbrake cable!

Update: took everything apart, replaced the hose from hell and the hose from hell on earth then to find a leak in my thermostat. Fixed that but still getting a few drips coming from the area, might just be left over liquid but anything else behind there that could be leaking?
