I managed to end 2016 by taking this car and a friend to Wakefield Park for a day of driving. As it was my friends first ever day on the track, it was great to see him enjoy it in my car. Nothing better than being generous when the opportunity arises. The car ran without breaking and we didn't give it much rest as there were only three groups, not four. It really has no power as it's as quick in a straight line as a FT86 so about 120rwkw. The rsrr held up well but brake discs and lines didn't fair so well as they were suffering all day. Times were 1:13.5. I believe it will do a 1:12:00 in its current set up but that's something to work on in 2017. The gearbox suffered heat sink too as shifting was an issue. Synchro's were screaming by the afternoon. Sent from my F3115 using Tapatalk

Thanks Eric, can still find more time without performance modification but really needs some cooling management as I could have cooked eggs on the intake plenum.

You can never have too much cooling with a turbo car!

I didn't realise how hot the intake actually gets. It was very hot. The dump pipe must radiate a huge amount of heat too. Its something I will sort out in the coming weeks. At least the factory ecu was doing all it could to stop the engine from dying! Also managed some four wheel drifting coming down the hill. That was a ton of fun. This is Callum. Was great to allow him to drive the car for his first ever track day. His driving was excellent. Didn't loose it once. Sent from my F3115 using Tapatalk

Enjoying Tasmania to two great characters. Was great watching Doug take the wheel of Pat's tarmac weapon. Doug said it was unbelievable! We are located at the start of one of Pat's favourite country drives. Sent from my F3115 using Tapatalk

One way to finish off 2016 is getting the car on the hoist to see what's really going on. Turns out a reasonable amount of oil leaks but not impossible to fix. Also discovered a broken axle cage boot. Hopefully the cage is ok but chances are, it will be changed before its next outing. The front end is suffering so it has now been dismantled with new wheel bearings being the installed, new bushes plus a steering rack that doesn't leak like a sieve. One thing of note is brake pad wear pattern from driving hard at the track. It looks like the calliper is flexing which is causing 25% loss of pad contact. I'm sure a few other people have come across this. It's manageable as I am confident it will still get into the 1.12 in current configuration. The rest of the underside of the car looks good. No rust, no accident damage.

Today was ARDC private practice at Sydney Motorsport Park which was a great excuse to get the SW20CS (Clubman spec) for a run. I haven't driven SMP for a few years due to work and not having a car available but this year will be the year to make up for lost time. The track and facilities are brilliant. WP is a fun little track but SMP simply blows it away. There are a few spots on the track which are bumpy but the grip made up for the few bumps. Weather conditions were perfect being overcast all day long, 25 degrees, no rain. There was a huge variation of cars from GT3 race cars to Civics. The L2S class was great as there were about 15 cars in our group so there was a huge amount of track space for everyone. The goal was a 1.55 lap time. I ran a 1:48 in the race car in 2011 so it was a fair enough goal. The SW20CS has basic power at around 150rwkw(still..)and has a overheating issue when driven hard at the track. This causes the ECU to retard the power output so it has 120kw (there abouts..)but before it drops into 'safe mode' it is a ton of fun when it rev's straight out to 6200rpm with ease. The tyres are the RSRR which worked really well at SMP. They are better suited to SMP than WP. So a fair tyre to achieve a 1.55. I was suffering some fault which effected timing in the first session which I fixed without it reoccurring for the rest of the day. The oil catch can that I fitted was a great help but cooling really is the bane of these cars. Balance was fantastic, especially under heavy braking. The stock brakes with Willwood 600 brake fluid, matched with Red stuff pads worked well with this set up. The car did not step out until the final session of the day when I had made a small change to the front of the car which was bringing the rear around in the hair pin(turn two), and turn 11 when I pushed a little too hard. Overall the balance was really good. Such a great little car. The second session I managed a 1:59 which was ok but stilll a lot of work to do. Top speed was 181kph and 134kph into turn one. After a chat with someone who knew the track very well and a study of my Racechrono, I figured out a few things then when out for a few more runs. Last session of the day saw a 1:55:55, top speed of 197.7, 147.7 at apex of turn one. Very pleased with the results and confident I can get the car down a few more seconds once the heat sink is sorted and a few other tweaks are done. This includes: The new poly bush kit. Rear bearings and ball joints. Alignment and RC reset. AVCR boost controller. My old water injection kit. 1:50 is the goal for the GP track on 140 treadwear tyre(RSRR) with 150 rwkw.
