is it legal to remove the trunk wall to make more room?

    I wouldn't think it would be. That would form part of the structure that gives the chassis strength and contains heat/fire. 
     
    You'd probably get a defect for it if the police or rta went over the car. I've seen a few people run pipework in and out of the boot for ic setups, they passed engineering certs.
