3sge na short shifter

g'day im the son that conned into doing all of the mechanical work on cars. i am currently looking at buying a short shifter for my non turbo sw20, i am wondering if there is any difference between the short shifters for the Na compared to the turbo as its hard to find any that are specified to be just for the 3sge if anyone can help me with this that would be great.

No difference NA / Turbo. If I were you, best option is to find a later model rev 3+ factory one. they shift much nicer in my opinion.

    Hi Zeus,
I believe that I have probably a used replica B&M Short Shifter, Drop Plate, & TRD Knob, surplus to requirements.
    I will check.
Maybe we can do a deal.

I got one like this from eBay 6 months ago. I wasn't sure about the quality but so far it's all good and I have used it for two track days and I love it. Cheap from eBay.

    Thanks Danti,
From your pic, I reckon that mine is likely to be a cheap eBay one as well. See pic.
    Quality looks o.k.
For Zeus, possibly barely worth sending across Australia if you can get one for under A$50 delivered.
    I will PM during today.

    Hi Zeus,
I reckon that my short shifter is a Chinese replica of the B&M.
The change over from one shift lever to the other is quite easy.
The instruction pages I sent explain it quite well, but it does become clearer as you are doing the job.
Changing the lever will not alter shift pattern or anything else.
It will only shorten the throw forwards & backwards & side to side.
When you refer to shift times, I get the impression that there may be other things causing slowness of movement of the shift lever forwards & backwards & side to side.
I strongly suggest that you read Redtarga's Technical articles on the Forum.
There are quite a lot of moving parts in the arrangement from the shift lever in the cabin, to the levers on the gearbox.
I have replaced them all on my car, & am about to try some different bushes in the gearbox ends of the cables.
I have also replaced Clutch Master Cylinder, pedal clevis, plus release cylinder internals.
The heat shield is missing from the release cylinder, & I reckon that my clutch fluid over heats/boils, causing poor shifting.
This time of the year, when it's cold it shifts o.k. but I reckon it should be better.
I still have work to do.
I will still see if I can find other discussion on the Forum which may help you.
Rick & Carmikey & I swapped some discussion about replacing the little shift block with a roller bearing.
    Best Regards,
    Peter

    Hi again Zeus,
I just used the term, "Short Shifter" in the search box at the top of this page, & found some interesting discussion from back in 2011, in which Redtarga features.
    Well worth the read.

    Thanks Zeus,
    Have texted.
The problem with heat tape & insulation, is that they only slow down the rate of heat transfer.
The air gap resulting from the heat shield is likely to be far more effective.
I also reckon that I will change fluid from DOT 3 to DOT 4.
I think that my clutch difficulties got worse after doing the release cylinder, & using the MR2 specified DOT 3.
    Best Regards,
