Car cut out at a stop sign now no CEL and no spark

I was at a stop sign on saturday and I took off and the engine just sorta stopped being on... electrical etc stayed on but the car wouldnt start back up.
So I pushed it off the road and my mate came and picked it up and it is currently serving as a very attractive lawn ornament.
Anyway so I was playing around with it and found no spark... ignition coil etc seemed fine resistance-wise but no spark... so  then i got back in the car and realised I had no CEL showing when I went to try to do diagnostics. The bulb etc is all there so there's no trickery on that part.
Has anybody had any experience with something like this? has my ECU blown up or is something shorted etc? It's a weird one.

    UPDATE:

The AFM is shorting it. Disconnect the AFM and the car starts... and then attempts to run at 300rpm. Is this some kind of sign to tell me the AFM is cooked, or is it just shorting? I can't see any obvious signs of electrical issue.
