Quick question - 1.5way aftermarket lsd for 90 model open diff ??

Hi all,
Just a quick question, are there any aftermarket lsd options to buy a 1.5way which will suit a 90 model e153 which is an open diff ? I've had a quick look and can only seem to find either 1way or 2way lsd to suit.
Has anyone had any experience with a 2way before ?? I'm guessing 1.5's are definitely the most popular.

Yes there are 1.5 way, kazz etc. Depends if you want to race or drive on the road.

DVS_mr2 has put in a 2way, lock up a lot, so just noisy/back end jumps/hops sideways around the street when taking a corner.

The kaaz diffs are awesome. Have one in a c60 box rear drive. The aw11 i have used to have the factory supercharged lsd which is not as good. Shop around and you should be able to get one for 1100 or less

Cool thanks, I should also mention I'm looking for a turbo model one. Its confusing on the kaaz site as they have listed the "normal" diff type as "viscous" for the 3sgte 89/10 - 91/12 models (which all come with open diffs as far as I've researched).  So I wonder if they are getting them mixed up with the 93+ viscous models ??
Either way I'm concerned if they will fit the same or not ??

why do you want a 1.5way lsd? What is the car used for and what do you want the lsd for?

Personally for an MR2 I would just go for a factory lsd. I find the mechanical lsds like cusco, kaaz, etc...suit certain applications like drag racing and drifting but can cause a lot of issues for general drivability. I've driven a few cars with different aftermarket lsds in them and had a 1.5way in a car, didn't like it. I guess you have done your research and know what the difference is between, one way, two way and 1.5's and when they lock/don't lock but I've personally found they give way too much rear end grip when going though a corner if they lock and cause understeer, unless your drifting a corner of course. I do love them in drift skylines and drag cars though. Launches will be awesome.

Nice to hear from someone who has experienced a few options, I've only ever driven my mr2 with the open factory diff. I was just thinking that 1.5 is going to help especially for sliding in tight corners in motorkhana and also drifting. I'm not too worried about what it will feel like in general driving. But hey, maybe a factory viscous or aftermarket 1way will do the job for those purposes as well ?? My other main concern was that over time the factory viscous one could wear out as well.

I'm still a bit confused however by the table on this page http://www.kaazusa.com/lsd_toyota.html where it doesn't seem to specify any match for the 89.10~91.12 3S-GTE with a "normal" - open diff. Instead its listed as viscous. Any ideas ?

Well its the US for starters so probably listing USDM MR2's but basically saying all turbo MR2's had LSD's. I'm not sure if this is the case or not, you got a turbo with no LSD? Seems odd that the turbo would come without one?

Can't help you there, I don't know enough about that. If I had to get a KAAZ LSD though I would buy locally. If your axles have the wrong spline count etc...then you will have to chase up new parts. So best to buy local from someone that knows and you can return easily if they supply an LSD that doesn't fit.

Yeah all early model 3sgte's (1989 - 1991) came from factory without LSD as standard.  In saying that is was also a factory option to have LSD installed. (stamped on vin plate shown by a number after E153)
LSD's were fitted as standard from factory from late 1992 thru all 3sgte's mr2 models.

I have the Kaaz 1.5way in my 89 turbo. My car originally had an open diff. You don't need to buy new axles.

You need these factory parts to install it (I think they are Rev3 onwards parts):
    Speed Meter Drive Gear 33481-12100
    Ring 90520-99011
Diff. Bolt 90105-12150 (you need 16 of these)

I've gone to a better place - PM me for info
