SEPTEMBER IS COMPETITION MONTH IN QUEENSLAND

SEPTEMBER IS COMPETITION MONTH IN QUEENSLAND

Following on from the success of the Nationals 2015 track day at Willowbank the Club has by default made September this year "Competition Month" with a wide range of competition activities on almost every weekend.

Cootha Classic Hill Climb - Saturday 5 September 2015

A Club member, the ever enthusiastic and competitive Ben77, has succeeded with his MR2 to gain an entry to represent the Club as one of the 100-only cars participating in the famous Cootha Classic Hill Climb. Club members will be making up Ben's pit crew and we hope to show the expected thousands of spectators at the event what a well prepared MR2 can really do. We all wish Ben and the crew the best of luck and hope to see a trophy appear.

If you'd like to know what the Cootha Classic is all about then check out the website below:

If you'd like to go as a spectator to help spur Ben on then contact Eric via PM on this Forum. Any support would be greatly welcomed.

Diabetes Australia Hot Pursuit Challenge - Sunday 13 September 2015

A few months ago the Club was offered a special deal to attend the "Hot Pursuit Challenge" which is a day at the Mt Cotton Advanced Driver Training Facility supporting Diabetes Australia. As we probably all know someone living with diabetes this event seemed a great way to help the great charity work done by that organisation.

This event is described as "a Top Gear type of skid, brake, swerve and accelerate around a world class driver training circuit in a range of new cars provided by Toyota including the Toyota 86 as well as an Excel Cup race car. Test skills and nerve behind the wheel as the challenge is on to find out who will win the top of the leader board accolade."

With all food and drinks included and the opportunity to race someone else's new car instead of your own, when the limited numbers Club invitation special deal was announced the phone rang off the hook. The places filled almost overnight and so our members will be part of the group of only 40 participants in the all-day event.

Spectators are not permitted unfortunately as the day is really full on (when not competing people will be driving over the 4WD circuit or going on simulators) but we will have photos. In case you are wondering why our Club was approached it is because of the Toyota brand connection and recent Nationals publicity.

If you'd like to know what the Hot Pursuit challenge is all about then check out the website below:

Willowbank Raceway Track Day - Saturday 26 September 2015

This event already has full coverage in another thread on this Forum but it is a great example of how the $20.00 annual membership fee is exceptional value when Club members like Eric do all the hard work to promote different types of activities for paid-up members to participate in. Eric is to be congratulated for his efforts in putting this track day together and we intend to make this a recurring event in the Club calendar.

Interclub Challenge - Sunday 27 September 2015

If we weren't doing enough this month the Club has also been invited to attend the following event on Sunday the 27th of September 2015. If members haven't been able to attend any of the other events then this one is new for us as part of seeing whether or not we are interested in participating in the whole group of challenge events in 2016. if there are any questions then please PM me.

It should be noted that a minimum of four cars is needed to make up a Club "team", so individual entries are usually not accepted.

Entries are now open for InterClub Event 7 – Bitumen Motorkhana – September 27th  (Sunday) at the Willowbank Driver Training area

An easy to use Online entry form is available from the link below.

http://www.hsccq.com/upcoming-events/hsccq-motorkhana/

Locality Map and Supp Regs are also available on the HSCCQ website.

Cost is only $35.00 and ENTRIES ACCEPTED ON THE DAY but entries beforehand is preferred.

Scrutineering from 8.00am, a briefing of competitors at 10.15 am, event starts at 10.30 am.

Given everything happening in the next four weeks its easy to see why September is "Competition Month" for the Club in Queensland!!

I'm interested in these sorts of events, however the timing is a bit of a stretch for 27/09/15.  I can make up numbers if you have 3 of the 4 entrants required for entry, otherwise I'll give it a miss this time around.

A number of the MR2 members & friends attended the Diabetes Queensland charity Hot Pursuit day on 13/09/15 at Mt Cotton Training Centre. It awesome day having the chance to push our limits around the skid pan and some technical cone setups in variety of Toyota's 86, Aurion, Corolla and Land Cruiser.
To add some competitiveness there was a Hot Pursuit Leader Board for the fastest lap with the winner receiving a trophy. With some extra activities between all the driving including Grog Goggles walk the line & ball tossing to see effects of alcohol and a triple screen driving simulator.
For those who were there or missed out you can visit the link below to the Diabetes Queensland Facebook page with all the pics.
It was a pleasure to take part in such an event for a good charity which was ran very professionally thanks to the Diabetes Qld organisers and SDT team. If they run this event in the future will defiantly be entering again and recommend to others.
