Mr2 W30 engine conversion

Hi all,
I am new to this but I am wondering if a mr2 sw30 sequential 5sp 2000 model can be converted to a V6 engine? If so what conversions are available and what engine models?

My clutch and actuator have just carked it and it will cost me a heap to replace around 5.5k including labour (4k for all the parts I need) as i need it done asap so wondering if its worth converting instead? Only bought the car 9 months ago :'(

Thanks!

Not sure about Australia, as I know there are various rules etc. that need to be followed (e.g. Engineering major changes), but there are a handful of Spyders (Roadsters) in the UK running V6 engines. Could be worth checking out MR2ROC and twobrutal for some background.

I know that access to the front bank of 3 requires an access hatch through the firewall which I'm not sure would pass any engineering over here!?

I'd be interested to know though as I'd love a 2GR Spyder :D

V6 will be looking at BIG dollars. 2ZZ and manual swap from Celica is most common upgrade but if after more. They have just started making full kits to do Honda K swaps into Spyders. More $ and more involved than 2ZZ but would be a lot better outcome. Would go this way now if I had dollars and not done the 2ZZ swap.

Approx how much does a manual conversion cost? I prefer manual over the seq cars but at the time of purchasing the car had not a lot of knowledge into seq.

Thanks I'll have a look more, I've seen abit on two brutal, it's my understanding that the old mr2 SW20's can be converted to V6 I was just wondering if the same could be done to the newer sw30 models

Any benefits or downfalls of a 2ZZ swap? Any year celica specifically?
(Keep in mind I have never altered a car in anyway before but doing some research to begin to learn/have my car enthusiast bro help out inbetween his car mods) :D

If there's nothing wrong with your 1ZZ, then you may (will) find it cheaper to keep it and convert to a manual transmission.

If you're after more power too, then you've got NA / FI upgrades to the 1ZZ or engine swap (2ZZ likely to be the cheapest, then you're on to V6 / K swaps etc).

There are V6 converted Mk3s around, though I've yet to come across one in Australia (a few of Mk2s though).

No matter what, you are looking at at least $5k. To fix the SMT, with no guarantee that it won't break again, as you said $5.5k. Check with Terry at Road and Track what the actual price is, but I believe it is around $4.5k to convert the car to a proper manual. To get a 2ZZ swap done is $9k. Don't know what the price for V6 swap is, but it will be far more than the 2ZZ. Even at 2ZZ level, you're looking at spending almost as much as you spent buying the car.

I have had the 2ZZ and 6 speed manual swap done in my 2000 Spyder a couple of years ago, and it is great. Mostly for the fact it is now a proper manual, not so much the engine, you really can't use the extra revs in normal day to day driving.

My suggestion would be to get the manual conversion done only.

I've gone to a better place - PM me for info

Okay so I think I've decided I'm gonna go with a manual conversion with my current engine at 1ZZ I've found a kit for about 2.5k now just either to decide to do it myself/bro or get it done somewhere local and buy a seperate car that's already V6 (thinking Nissan 350Z convertible)

Just to check though if my clutch and actuator are buggered and I'm converting to a manual it's not the actual transmission that's the problem it's the shifting mechanisms? And I won't have trouble swapping to manual trans?
