mister_two's TYPE III MR2 GT-S (update 20-10-2010)

Okay I guess I better jump on the showroom bandwagon and start posting stuff on my car. I'll try to update this thread when I acquire new parts.

Here's a bit of a background:

My brother (Dustin/MADMR2) and I have always owned an MR2. Our first car was a 1992 SW20 G-Limited which we still have.

I've owned my June build 1994 MR2 GT-S since 2001. After hassling almost every importer in Victoria to import me an MR2, my brother Dustin (MADMR2) came across an importer by the name of Leisure Vehicles that were willing to do it for me. Back then the cost of getting compliance for an SW20 was around $7000.00 as there were only 3 (as far as I know) places in Australia that were able to do compliancing for SW20s. As soon as my brother told me that Leisure Vehicles were willing to import me a late model MR2. I dropped by and gave them $1000.00 to find me a TYPE III MR2 GT-S hardtop with a grade quality of no less than 3.5. Three months later my car arrived in Melbourne via Queensland where the compliance was carried out.

Modifications were rather mild:

- Cusco type OS strut braces front and rear
- Fujitsubo Legalis R (Mild steel version which ToyMota (Eric) has now) cat back exhaust
- SARD EX intake
- Ohlins shocks/springs
- TRD clutch and flywheel
- Super Advan SA3R wheels
- RAZO carbon fibre pedals

The car was rather clean apart from a piece of used Japanese chewing gum wrapped up in its wrapper and placed inside the passenger seat map pocket. The car had an "I-MEC" sticker on each fender. I have a feeling the car was owned by an enthusiast that perhaps took the car on the track or participated in gymkhana, as when I looked closely the sound deadening behind the carpet and in front of the firewall looked like it was removed and reattached, the hand brake had a little drilled hole where perhaps a pin was inserted for easy hand braking, and the foam inside the rear bumper removed.

Anyhow enough my story below you'll find a list of parts currently fitted and below that some random pictures which includes the TYPE II G-Limited (first car) and my brother's (Dustin/MADMR2) TYPE III MR2-GT-S.

Great write-up. Nice looking cars you and your brother have there.
I remember chatting to Dustin years back as we were both trying to source a Legalis R for our cars lol

I love stories with happy endings lol. I reckon you and your brother has one of the hottest MR2's. Hardtop and rev 5 wing, just the best combination. Even your wheels are great. Not really a fan of 3 spokes but your one does the car just fine.

    Great looking car.

Senor_2: Thanks for your kind comments. My brother & I have been around for awhile, but I don't usually post whereas Dustin is a regular on the forums. Did you end up getting a Fujitsubo Legalis R?

greddy_es: Thanks man. I'll post more in the near future especially if I have fitted or acquired something for the car. How's the turbo going for you?

mr_mi6: I sure can babble, there was a lot more to write but I didn't want to bore anyone anymore I already have . Thanks for your comment and that's a pretty big call. I feel sometimes my car isn't really post worthy on here as there are so many people with nicer looking cars than mine, however I must admit my brother and I are rather lucky to have 3 hardtop SW20s between us. As for the wheels, I really need to change them over to something more modern and can accommodate bigger brakes. I must admit the wheels give it that 90's JDM look though [88].

evl_132: Ha ha thanks, however it only looks good when you encourage me to wash it at hueys! As for seeing it with the new turbo on, you won't really notice the difference as it looks like a factory item apart from the BLITZ markings. It's a good turbo and it spools like a factory CT-20b or dare I say maybe even quicker. If I'm driving sedately I find the turbo spools and before I know it its hit .7 bar. As for the power, well CHASERS said if the intake temps weren't so high it would make 200kW at the wheels but obviously I'm still experiencing high intake temps so I didn't quite get the power I was looking for (191KW at the wheels). I hope to have that fixed in the near future with a water to air setup and a few other little things .

nic: Thanks man, I've always aimed for the clean JDM TYPE V (1998) look. As for the wing my brother and I purchased them back in 2002 where some company in Japan were making replica 1998 wings out of Carbon fibre. I was originally going to buy a factory 1998 wing until I found out how much it costs from Toyota. So I went for the full carbon one and had the sides painted. Other companies are making them, check yahoo Japan although the exchange rate is not in our favour at the moment.

ToyMota: ha ha as evl_132 pointed out, the purple car is the G-Limited.

Yep sure did, ended up getting one from Yahoo auctions
So what's next on the list for you, there's a mention of W2A?
Are you still running standard cams and cam gears? That's probably all you'd need to upgrade to comfortably get over the 200rwkw mark and start reaching the limits of the K1

Senor_2: Ahh good stuff man. Are you happy with yours? I've always liked the Fujitsubo Legalis R, nice and subtle with the noise but at the same time gives good power gains.

I am still running standard cams and cam gears. I've been told by a few people I should go for the cams as it should get me to 200rwkws. As for what's next I want to get an aftermarket LSD, W2A, cams and cam gears along with a ST215 intake manifold and a few other little things.

MRGen3Turbo: Thanks man. I'm looking forward to seeing yours at the Garage Cafe meet. I've heard many things about your car. As for the BLITZ K1-380V, I'd be interested as to how much it can push out of it once I get the other supporting modifications done, or maybe I'll just upgrade [88].

MR2QIK: Thanks pare! As for visiting Sydney, well I don't have any immediate plans just yet but hopefully sometime this year. As for you coming down to Melbourne, make sure you let me know and we'll catch up. Known you for years but never actually met you.

    True mate, will do.

A good proper tune is all you need to get to 200rwkw. With a K1, I honestly feel the standard intake manifold would suffice. Give it a good cooler & a tune by someone with a clue & I promise you'll be loving it @ 20psi (over 220rwkw). [}:)] Come to Sydney & let Hitman have a go, good excuse to make the trip [:p]
