My Money Pit - SW20
ok hears the story...
Bought a red aussie 1990 sw20 for 6500 and had many plans for it..
Drove it around for about 3 months before things started happening. I decided to do the dreaded turbo conversion on it. I got onto hayley (Toymr) and organised a range of parts including, JE Pistons, Eagle Rods, and ARP Head and main bolts. Sent it off to road and track and terry built me up an engine. Picked the engine up and the next weekend, the old n/a motor came out after alot of mucking around. I realised that having a hoist would have been great but we managed to do it using an engine crane and jack stands. While the engine was out and the car up on stands, I decided to pull out the fuel tank and replace the n/a pump with a 255lpm walbro pump, also did the fuel filter while there was room. Next the D2 coilovers went in and fitted in nicely.
The next stage was trying to get the engine in, we decided to have everything bolted on (manifold, turbo, intake, loom, etc) as i thought it would be a mission to put those types of things on when it was mounted. Got hold of one of the nahux 3 inch exhaust systems so that went in also. It took a full weekend for us to navigate the way for the engine to go up into the engine bay, but once we had it up we put the oil in connected up the ecu and tried kicking it over, it wound but wouldn't kick...
So it was off to the auto electrics to try and sort out all the wiring, i got it back and they said that it starts on an n/a ecu but not the turbo ecu. I thought this was bull*#@! so it went into road and track and terry and the boys sorted it out and we finally had it running and driving on the road.
Did my run in kms and decided that the haltec e8 had to go in, along with 800cc sard injectors. Went to a brisbane shop to be tuned and installed, when i drove it out it felt a bit weird but i took it home and in 2 days time, noticed that the ct26 had busted the oil seals.
So instead of trying to rebuild a old turbo, i got onto hypergear and had a tr43 turbo (rated to 470hp) send up and went into another shop in brisbane where they installed the turbo, made up a new exhaust manifold and modified the exhaust with a high flow cat since the nahux system didnt have one, and did some nice intercooler pipe work for me.
Since then i have had as many problems with it as you can think of, but dont have the time now to go through all of them, if you wanna know just ask, but fingers crossed, it is almost done as of today, its been about 1.5 years since we started... I have had it tuned at APC in slacks creek at 19psi it only made 260hp, hoping i got heaps more in it though, but turned it down to 12psi atm just for safety sake...
I have also purchased 17 inch enkei white race rims, a toms snorkel and a different engine lid, also had the car painted in hot house green..
Here are a few Pictures:
