ENGINEERED 1MZ V6 SW20 - 4226 QLD - SOLD
Hi everyone,
After a series of life events I have decided to sell my unique MR2. It’s a SW20 Targa 1990 G Limited import. The chassis has approximately 155,000 km’s, the engine 113,000 km’s, gearbox 3,000km’s, suspension 2,000km’s on it. I’ve had this car since 2013. I bought it as a project indenting to resto-mod it and make it a street weapon. It has never had a defect and has been registered and driving in QLD as of the 4
th of February. Located Clear Island Waters, Gold Coast QLD 4226.
I have restored many smaller things such as new wheel bearings, brand new hand brake cables, low mileage shift cables ETC. The car has had a full mechanical restoration / modification.
The significant mods are as follows:
- 1mz-fe 3.0L V6 conversion – Engineered and Mod plated for both NSW & QLD
- Custom exhaust system to suit - Engineered and Mod plated for both NSW & QLD
- E153 Gear box conversion
- White line 20mm 3 point adjustable roll bars
- Two’s R Us ½” Teflon bushed end links
- BC racing inverted race dampers – 3.5 Months 2,000km old
- Genuine Greddy front lip
- Tom’s style snorkel modified into cold air/ ram air intake
The car has had the V6 engine since 2010. All other mods have been done within the last 3 months.
Engine – The engine is in healthy condition. Serviced every 3,000km, side mounted oil cooler with thermo fan and braided lines. The car has oil pressure & temp sensors, and water temp. (oil temp and pressure currently not working as sensors have died. The engine conversion was done professionally back in 2010 in Sydney by a person known as ‘Vinny’ on the forums and comes with complete documentation and certification. The engine may be out of a Camry but the sound it makes especially with the custom intake reminds me of a classic Ferrari. I’ve done a road trip from Gold Coast to Muswellbrook in the hunter valley in this car and didn’t miss a beat. It’s the perfect combination of reliable new technology mechanicals with classis MR2 handling with enough torque to make any drive interesting.
Exhaust – The exhaust uses the factory manifold however, has custom Y pile, high flow cat and a custom made apexi muffler with apexi tips. Not very loud at all but still produces a great sound.
E153 conversion – I have done the E153 conversion as gearbox within the car at the time I bought it was dead. The conversion was done with completely new parts. The speedo drive was imported at significant expense from Toyota Japan, the clutch and throughout bearing were brand new using an Excedy stage 1 clutch upgrade. I bought a new pair of drive shafts as the CV’s I originally purchased were slightly aged. The replacements were low mileage and in great condition purchased from Josh Burton in Victoria (MrMR2). I also have 2 sets of shift levers for the gear box, 3 sets of shift cables (gen 1 NA, Gen 2 E153, and Gen 3 E153) although not of use to the car, still worth something. Fresh gearbox oil. I purchased the gearbox, drive shafts and rear hub assemblies from a fellow named Douge up in Brisbane. He is a well-known member of the QLD MR2 club and has built many gearboxes. The gearbox I purchased was reconditioned however, on the rare occasion and only when cold second gear may crunch. I suspect it may be due to the shift levels biting and not allowing for a smooth engagement, after about 500m of driving second shifts smoothly. I also fabricated the mount needed to adapt the long side drive shaft to the V6 engine and has been cold galvanized.
Interior – the interior is in great condition. I’ve replaced a genuine Momo steering wheel (costs $360) with a Gen 3 steering wheel as I wanted a more factory look and the T shaped wheel. No tears or wearing on the seats (suspect originals have been replaced), all interior vinyl is black and has no cracks or fading.
Exterior – The car has the late model style tail light, as well as the fender mounted side indicators with complete thick style rubber perimeter trim to suit. The car also has a genuine Greddy front lip purchased at significant expense and is in great condition, only a very small amount of rub on the right underside of the car from when I tried to go up my driveway at the wrong angle. The exterior is very rough and in need of a a little paint and repair. There is a large cosmetic dent behind the rear left targe. The paint has faded down significantly however, all panels are present and in good condition ready for paint. I also have a pair of Greddy replica side skirts that were fitted however never prepped of painted as I felt they made the 16” wheels look to small.
This car is like nothing else I have ever driven. The agility of the advanced suspension with the lazy torque curve of the V6 makes mountain roads smooth, fast and effortless. I will miss it greatly and more than likely want another soon after it’s gone. I have contemplated keeping it but given personal reasons I am not able to have a second car at my house and life’s gotten too serious for me to have a project. I cannot invest the time to finish building this car. I have spent $13,000 on this car and have an excel document that records what, where, when and how much I purchased each part for as well as future mods I had intended to do.
I’m willing to let go of the car for $7,000. I’m aware the car is rough to look at but is perfect for anyone who was hoping to do either a V6 conversion, E153 conversion or both as all the hard work and problem solving and part compatibility has been done. You could easily swap your existing drive line over and resell the shell and receive a reasonable return on what it had cost. This option is half that of doing the conversions alone.
I also have many spare parts I’m willing to include such as a replacement 1mz-fe that does require rebuilding however, the bottom end is in good condition still with factory hone marks. R32GTST front brake callipers intended for the Delta V brake upgrade, lowered springs, performance shocks, the prior mentioned Momo steering wheel. Spare engine torque mounts and transmission mounts.
I also purchased 2 days ago a pair of genuine BBS LM wheels. 17” 8” front, 9” rear. Perfect fit for MR2, comes with spare front tires. I had purchased these intending to do the Delta V brake upgrade. Not included in price above but also for sale. Currently has fitted 205’s front 235’s rear and clears the factory guards. Can fit 235’s on the front and 265’s rear if the guards are rolled.
Here’s the link to the original add when I purchased the car. It may have info I’ve missed.
