Hoonsy Engine or not, $500 for a rolling body is crazy! What's the plan for this one?
bought it for the gearbox etc, planning on a 1MZ in the grey car. I actually thought this car was in much worse condition and I was going to just rape it for spare parts and send the shell to scrap. But it's pretty tidy, no rust around the targa top, interior is in pretty good condition. It seems a shame to see it meet its end, so I'm talking with a guy who's looking for a project to do with his son. After the V6 swap is complete in the in the grey car we are thinking of putting all the N/A running gear in the orange one and doing a deal. It will all hang on the price though, he needs to offer me more than it's worth in parts.

Not much going of late. Work has been full on.
All I've managed here is fit a set of extra long wheel studs so that I could get some spacers in there. Also took the tension rods out of the orange car and fitted some superpro bushes and in to the gray car to get some caster adjustment. Have the first round for this years sprint races coming up on the 16th, not sure if I'll get the car out or not yet.
I need to put some effort into stripping the orange car down and selling off what I done want.

Been quiet this year and funds have been very prohibitive, the car has spent the year so far sitting on a hoist gathering dust. However this years 2 Day sprint on the back section of the Townsville 400 track is comming up and I want try and improve on my third class from last year. With only one club round between now and then I have had to commit to a few things. The castor rods from the orange car have gone in which has given me more castor. A new set of headers and exhaust are being built to save weight and gain a little power. The doors need to be gutted and the glass needs to replace.

Just been reading your story. Thanks, Good work. Well done. Those primary pipes look to be pretty long. That should be good but are they a little large in diameter ? Hard to tell in photos. Thanks for sharing the journey .

Primary pipe is stepped 8" plus 8", the first step is 1-5/8 second step is 1-3/4 secondary is 2" with a 2.5 'tail pipe'
the first step is smaller diameter than the stock one.
The sizing came out of a program called Pipemax along with some discussion on Speedtalk forum with Calvin from Elston Headers.
I would have liked to go down to 1.5" first step but this being Australia I couldn't buy preformed bend with a long enough bend radius to make it work. Well, not without tripling the cost of them anyway. The only way to work around a bend that is too tight and go to a bigger tube size at the expense of some bottom end torque. The flow on is every tube is 1/8th inch bigger than I wanted it to be.

Finished exhaust. Was worth the effort, the aim was to get it pull a bit harder out corners. Lap times say I got it right.

Now that I have some time,
I haven't run the car since this time last year. I ran the Reid Park event last year taking 3rd in class and 13th outright with a fastest lap of 58.52, then life got in the way of the last few club events for 2015 and for most 2016.
This years Reid Park sprint was preceded by dusting off the car and running one club event as a shake down as the car hadn't been run in almost 12 months.
First day of running saw lap times of 60.15, 59.47, 58.76, 59.34, 58.84, 59.34. Ended the day early with a left front shock letting go and basically turning into a pogo stick, the understeer just got to much.
Went 'home' early. Well went to work to pull the struts out of the orange car as working stock struts are better than leaking pogo stick adjustables. to save being awake all night working on the, I basically the complete assemblies out of the spare car and stuck them in race car. A quick side by side comparison and measuring the wire diameter of the springs, there was a 0.8mm difference in diameter and everything else looked the same. the slightly stiffer spring sat the front up a bit higher, but at least the car driveable again.
Day two lap times: 58.87, 58.78, 58.00, 58.83, 58.14, 58.62, 58.51 The 58.00 was enough to get me 2nd in class behind a 56.46 and 11th outright.

Got the engine up on a bench and made some straps to bolt it to the bench.
Gearbox mounted. 2 Bolt holes line up straight up, two more need threads cut. I need to lift it off the bench to get a look at the others. I will probably weld to the tabs to the bell housing to pick up a few other.

was at the right place an knew the right people. The power steering bracket is broken, not really an issue in an MR2 It still has all the plastic caps on the heater pipes and throttle body etc. There are a few small issues with broken fittings on the plenum and the wiring harness has been cut where we think the rear bank oxygen sensor should be. Only really had quick look at that as I'm still not sure which path i'll take with the ECU. I can buy stock stuff. Or the Link Storm will do the 4 cam phasers, the electronic throttle, variable intake and all the stuff this engine has.
