My MR2 - Resurrected old thread - Some minor mods

Hi All,

I'll put up a pic of my daily work hack, my 1990 SW20T. I haven't done much previously as I've had so much plans for it but its slowly progressing there. I've only decided to put up a pic as I've changed the rims (only out of necessity) from the chromie 18s which I have never liked but I couldn't justify the costs of new wheels. Comments and criticism (constructive ones) gladly accepted. I'm honest to say that I didn't buy my MR2 for the practicality of moving from A-B alone. lol

I'll take more pics as I go, I only have my crappy iphone camera at the moment.

Here is my stockish MR2. I haven't done much to it since I bought it 5 years ago.

Known mods to me thats not standard. (I keep finding out new mods now and then though).

Engine:
GReddy boost controller
Some highflowed turbo (not sure who or when or what specs)
ARC cold air intake
HKS Silent Hi-power exhaust
Heavy Duty clutch
Original Jap battery (still going strong after 7 years and used daily!)

Body:
Fibreglass bonnet
Lipped guards
Gen 3 taillights
HIDs

Interior:
Full leather seats (gets burning hot in summer)
E-dials
Momo Gearknob
Short shift kit
Alpine head deck
Alpine amp
2x 8 inch subs
2x 6x9s
Autometer fuel and boost gauges.

Suspension/Brakes:
Lucas brake pads
RDA slotted and dimpled rotors
Federals 205x17 at fronts and 245x17s at rears
Tanabe springs and struts up front
Tein coilovers rear end

Thats it for the moment. I tend to upgrade things only when they break with something better, so it'll prob take me a fair bit of time to get the car to where I'll be happy with it since Toyota has generally pretty good reliability.

Regards
Jeff

Hahaha, yeah. The VL was the first I bought. Its not meant to be in the pic, I only realised after I took it. The engine and gearbox is out atm, which is why the front is lifted up so high.

You know when the car costs you way too much money and you don't get anything back? Thats the VL. :) I built it from a stock VL Calais Turbo into a Walky replica that was in Street Commodores a few years back when VL Turbos were a dime a dozen.

I'll take a few more pics of the MR2 and upload it later today. I don't think I have ever made up a forum topic about my MR2 nor kept a car diary, however with the MR2 being so much more reliable than my VL, I think its worth it.

a lot of those mods seem to be very very similar to mine.

Nice ride mate. Like the wheels a lot too.

I also like those clear "Toblerone" side indicators. Were they on the car when you bought it? Any idea where I can get a set?

Cheers, those toblerone ones I got from JPN. Fairly easy through http://www.importmonster.com.au/. I got for about $60 total at the time where the aust dollar was fairly good. Now you might pay a little bit more.

Hmmm...inside is nothing much. A single DIN alpine, subs behind each seat with box, reholstered full leather seats, nardi steering wheel, 2 autometer gauges on the A pillar and a etronic dial lights. I'd go all black if I could. Keeping interior clean is easy, esp one as small as the MR2.

As you know I'm pretty lazy, even to clean the car but I thought I'd give the car a simple clean at a good mates place and post up some pics before it undergoes some asthetic mods.

    During the wash.

    After the wash.

I got them from ebay, from the US a while back. They are pretty good, they don't fall out and works with amber bulbs.

Its just basically the smoked version of the JDM clear ones.

I know this is dubious question but do you recon they'd look good on a white SW20?

Depends on the look you're after, but I'm generally one for consistency, I'd go for the JDM clear ones (maybe even the aftermarket crystal ones) if I had a white car. Mind you the rubbers should still be black. I've seen cars where they painted everything the same colour, window rubbers, windscreen surrounds etc and it looks a little weird.

But looks is something personal, just do whatever you feel looks best. Get stuff photoshopped if it helps you to decide. :)

Update: Poor showing really, after a big round of mods. But I'll update it again in a week or so. :)
