I'm hoping to sell my MR2 as I'm moving overseas next month. It's a pretty great vehicle for someone who wants something comfortable that is ready to do track days and hillclimbs. If I don't get any offers over $4k I'll just stash it in a barn for a few years but I think it's worth a fair bit more than that - it's a very, very fun car to drive and this is an honest sale.
I've serviced a lot of the scarier items over the last year that are often neglected on MR2's so I think that's pretty rare around this price.
Engine:
3SGTE Gen 2
Power FC (AP Engineering - rare model runs MAP not MAF)
Had 185rwkW with stock turbo, now has a Kinugawa TD06-20g SL2 8cm2 (fast spool variant)
Walbro fuel pump, Supra injectors, FPR swaged to 50psi, fuel rail bored to 8mm. Should support a safe 220-230rwkW when a non-terrible exhaust is fitted.
Greddy Profec-B EBC is installed but solenoid not connected, I prefer to use the simpler Turbotech ball & spring MBC as it gives just as good response without introducing any pulsing
New timing belt, head gasket, valve stem seals, reground valve seats, resurfaced head by Headtorque, stiffer valve springs (Engle), new cam seals, distributor seal, "hose from hell", "hose from hell on earth", new water pump, oil pump seals, crank seal, cam seals - all fitted last year. Note: I did the head gasket to fix a slight oil leak - never had any overheating issues at all in my time.
Even compression +/- 2psi accross all cylinders (welcome to test)
Brakes:
New rear discs, re-machined front discs, new genuine pads all round - fitted last month. Has the 93+ Turbo model brakes from factory i.e. the biggest that came with the SW20 which work really well on the street and track.
Suspension:
New ball joints and relatively soft polyurethane bushes (Prothane) all round - fitted last year
Koni Yellow adjustable strut inserts all round - fitted this year
Whiteline front adjustable anti-roll bar
Steering rack adjusted to remove play
Federal 595 RS-R semi slicks (have found this good in all conditions and durable too)
Stock springs
Track ready wheel alignment (neutral toe)
The whole set up is sharp, balanced, grippy and still comfortable.
Interior:
Nice AC and climate control
Clean, stock looking interior with original steering wheel and an OEM styled Jaycar MP3 stereo.
Issues:
Turbo model engine has not been registered to the NA chassis. That said, this is the G-Limited model which came with all the turbo model's suspension and brakes. When I've been pulled over by cops I think they just think this is a Celica and don't give it a second glance.
Paint is terrible from close up due to a cheap respray by a previous owner. Amazingly the paint underneath where the new paint has pealed off is still in good condition, and looks like it just needed a good polish. There is amazingly no rust on the body.
There is a spray can respray on the right rear corner where I scraped a guard rail (see photos).
There is some damage to the rear subframe where I went backwards over a rock - I don't see any functional issues with it and am happy to show you.
Car has a stock NA muffler at the moment and some random diameter changes after the 3" down pipe - you can feel the engine being choked at anything over 14 psi. I have ordered a Fujitsubo Legalis R from Gorilla Industries - a few months away though so can sell this separately if interested.
Slow oil leak from the oil filter area - have got new seals and oil cooler to go in as I think this is the very last oil leak to sort out.
I think there's a small leak from the down pipe flex joint which makes an irritating whistle on boost - have got some materials to fix the down pipe but would wait till a proper muffler is fitted as it may go away when the exhaust pressure drops.
Gearbox synchros aren't great. You will feel 1st-2nd catch slightly in the first 2min of driving on any day, 4th-5th needs revs to be matched roughly. Test drive it though as you may or may not even notice these issues.
Any questions welcome here or by PM. Will be available for inspection etc. between May 9 and 17.
