What wreckers car do I raid for manual window winders/mechanisms for the AW11?

I'm assuming something Toyota from the mid to late 80s? Anyone have a make and model that they know will work to help refine my search? I'm looking for weight saving / simplification for my AW11 track car.

Cheers, Chris

You need to source them from an AW10 (yes, that's not a typo...)
To be honest, I only know of two AW10's in the whole country.

Cheers guys. For the record, I also asked someone last night on another forum, who had previously done the conversion, and he used parts from an AW10 imported from America. Looks like power windows are here to stay. Oh well, plenty of other stuff to strip out of these heavy little beasts to hit my 8XXkg target.

It *could* be possible the mk1a came with manual windows (84-86), but again only if it was imported, IIRC it wasn't only the AW10. Statement still stands that you aren't likely to come across the needed parts from an MR2 in Australia.

You could think outside the box though since it might be possible to raid other 80's Toyota parts for the right components. I'd imagine a lot of trips to wreckers and trialling/testing would be needed.

Alternatively as mentioned, search US or possibly even the UK for the conversion parts.
I'm guessing you're doing away with the door trims altogether and putting some sort of lightweight board as a replacement with handle straps etc?

If only a race car how about removing the Window reg all together and using thick cable ties to tie the Window to the top of the inside door frame. I've seen it done before.

On the passenger side would be fine because your never letting that one down.

On the drivers side you could just cut it each time and remove window all together. I'm assuming you race with the drivers window down...

You'd save a bit doing the above because then you can lose most of the inner door skin in the process

I've already rationalised the power windows down to a single fused 12v cable only into each door with a dual relay setup inside each door to work with the factory switch. (For some very strange reason the power window wiring in my car was 'aftermarket' - I have an unusual mk1a aus delivered car so maybe it wasn't aftermarket at all but cut and shut manual to power conversion from the factory.)

Anyway, I'll leave the power windows for now and keep a lookout for manual ones from AW10 and early AW11s incase something pops up. Also, I have a stripped spare door, so can take photos/parts with me to the local BNE pick'a'part wreckers until I find something that may suit.

There is sooo much other 'quick win' weight reductions to do to the car first - HVAC delete, sound deadening removal & aluminium/plastic engine cover - to name a few. The combined weight of my new side mirrors, front headlight assemblies/brackets & front and rear bumper reo bars would be under 10kgs lol.

8XXkg target?? Thats going to be a massive effort, you going to have to take a hell of a lot out to manage that. The lightest i have seen is 790kg, but everything either side of the cabin was cut off and space framed.

But i believe maj is right that the mk1a have come with manual windows, but may only have been uk/us spec.
