Toyota 86 Race Series announced

Not MR2 news, but would be great for any Toyota enthusiast who wanted to do some real racing...

Will be good to see another series kick off in Australia, any that isn't V8 Supertaxi's is good in my books :)

Unfortunately the 86 is still too new of a car to bring this category of racing down to below the level of professional racing teams. Might be a different story if Toyota were to sell them as rolling shells with drive line packages for a reduced cost to series competitors.

I'm hoping it does work. We need more variety in Australian car racing. I'd love to see a dedicated MR2 series here too...

It will be similar to the Mini challenge series that followed the V8's around

It will be $50,000- $100,000 a year to run a car

With national TV coverage it would be possible to get sponsorship to help finance the operation though.
I just think it's great that Toyota is getting back into motorsport with a production car. It should be more entertaining than the V8's
